What is this yellow colouring on my son's skin?

My son, now 32 years old, has a long term, undiagnosed illness and, in the early stages of it, he developed an odd, yellow layer on his skin.  It almost looks scaly, although it doesn't feel like it, and it comes back quite quickly after being washed off.  It doesn't look as simple as mere dirt (it's very yellow as opposed to black) and covers his legs and torso, but not his arms.

I have photos but, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to do so.  However, we'd be grateful if anyone has any idea as to what it could be?

Many thanks.

Hello~It looks to me like a type of skin fungus, perhaps even Candida. Have you seen an allergist about this? There are some creams on the market to put on areas like this, you might want to try one and see if it works.

You can place photos on your home page in the photo section.  Come back and let me know if you do.  So, this washes off?  It's not just coloring of his skin? Could it be seborrheic dermatitis?  That's often on scalp and face but can be elsewhere too on the body. What type of doctor has he been seeing?

Hi - thanks so much for getting in touch, and for the advice for uploading photos, which are now on my home page.  Feel free to have a look.

Our first thought was seborrheic dermatitis but we're open to alternative theories.

Over the last twelve years, my son's seen all sorts of "experts" in a variety  medical disciplines for what started as being .  Some years ago, he received a diagnosis of POTS from a neurologist at NHNN in London, but only as a secondary diagnosis, not the main, unidentified problem.

He saw an endo for a few years but they ultimately ran out of ideas and suggested he didn't book further appointments.

He's seen a rheumatologist and a neurologist but no-one seems to have a clue.

His sister has Hashimoto's and I have a nodule in my thyroid.
