Sodium 146 mmol/l and foamy urine? (Male, 23)

For a while, I've noticed that my better half (male, 23) has foamy urine - some will even stay after a flush. He says it comes and goes.
We looked at some blood tests done half a year ago, and his sodium levels are a bit too high, 146 mmol/l. Normal is 137-145.

He has a bit of upper stomach pain sometimes, but is otherwise not affected. Works out and sweats a lot. A lot, like dripping after the warm up!

Do I need to be concerned? Have a hard time convincing him to go see our GP.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Thanks for the question.  It's always a good idea to be seen by a doctor when you have a health concern.  In this case, I would think you'll be told his sodium is so slightly elevated that it would not likely cause any symptoms.  Sometimes being slightly dehydrated can cause this slight elevation in sodium.  Ask the doctor about this to confirm.  However, foamy urine can be due to different things.  It could simply be a full bladder and the urine is expelled so fast it foams as it hits the water in the toilet bowl. or yes, it could be due to an underlying health condition. Dehydration can impact foam as well so it's important your partner be taking in enough fluids. It also could be protein in his urine and that would need investigation.  Protein in urine often indicates kidney disease. Anybody in his family have diabetes, kidney disease or high blood pressure?  Overall, he should talk this over with his doctor. It very well could be nothing but in case it is not, he'd want to know in order to address any health problems early.  https://www.healthline.com/health/foamy-urine#risk-factors

Hello~I would ask your physician and also ask for another blood work panel and a urinalysis. It is always best to err on the side of caution.
