My mother was on acid blockers for 25 years. Tagament for 20 years and nexium for 5 years. You are heading on the right path to mental and physical ill health guaranteed. In my mother's case almost fatal. My mother suffered with severe GERD and severe LPR. She now takes digestive enzyme supplements (better digestion) and betaine HCI with pepsin supplements (increases stomach acid) and no longer suffers these conditions. She also has a hiatus hernia too but these supplements are great.
"How your antacid drug is making you sick (Part A)" by Chris Kresser...
"Most people have no idea how many vital roles stomach acid plays in our bodies. Such misunderstanding is perpetuated by drug companies who continue to insist that stomach acid is not essential. Meanwhile, millions of people around the world are taking acid suppressing drugs that not only fail to address the underlying causes of heartburn and GERD, but put them at risk of serious (and even life-threatening) conditions.
"There are four primary consequences of acid stopping drugs:
Increased bacterial overgrowth
Impaired nutrient absorption
Decreased resistance to infection
Increased risk of cancer and other diseases"
I have a hyatis hernia too; for at least 35years and was told then that an operation would not help as it is too big and will tear again. Being a woman, I find it easier to control by wearing a longline bra (to the waist) and to watch what I eat to not cause bloating. When I do experience discomfort and/or pain, I take Buscopan (or a generic) to relax the spasm. Librax also helps but thats only on prescription.
Men can take the same tabs, but will have to find an alternative for the bra........
