Swelling only on one side of the body is concerning.  One hand verses both hands, for example.  My hands swell when I walk especially when it is hot out and that is really normal.  But it's both.  You say both but mainly the right which means one is worse or it sometimes only happens to the right and not left?  Just trying to get the full picture.

If your feet and ankles are swelling because you are walking or standing a lot, that's common and normal.  But . . . is it both feet at once?  And due to walking or standing a lot?  If not, then you need to look further into it.  Examples are lymphodema which results in fluid not draining properly, congestive heart failure, venous insufficiency which means that there is a problem with blood moving up your veins to the heart,  and blood clots.  That's all scary stuff.  Many elderly women show up in the emergency room with peripheral edema or swollen feet due to congestive heart failure (which is a chronic condition).  When I was pregnant, I had ONE foot swell terribly.  That was a vein issue in my case.  And I had pregnancy hypertension and had pitting edema overall.  (good times . . .  loved it so much I did it twice, ha ha).  Another common reason for this kind of edema is kidney issues.  And liver issues.  The list goes on.  Arthritis can cause swelling and swelling in the one hand more than the other . . .but that would generally have pain involved (beyond that feeling of swelling pain).

So agree whole heartedly that you need to be examined and evaluated by your doctor about this.  Purple is right.  And hydration definitely helps.  Some doctors will treat edema with diuretics ( do not do this yourself) and drinking lots of water can act as a diuretic.  So, see your doctor and let us know the outcome!

The swelling you are experiencing is likely a symptom of a bigger issue, so it's important to pay attention to it and instead of trying to treat the swelling- treat the cause of it.  Things like high blood pressure (dangerously high) can cause swelling.  You should get to the doctor to be checked out with a physical and let them know about the swelling.  Make sure you are also staying hydrated with the summer heat.
