Warm Leg Perception

For the last month or so, there's been a spot on my lower leg, about the size of a hand, that feels as if it's heating up. It's on the outside of my left leg, just above my ankle. It usually warms up for a few seconds, then goes away, but it's been getting more frequent. The skin isn't actually getting any warmer, so I'm assuming that it's nerve-related and nothing to do with the blood vessels. It really doesn't seem like a big problem, just kind of odd. I have had a slight problem with my lower back. I have to pop it regularly because it feels like it's stuck or something and becomes uncomfortable. I have no idea if that's related, but considering the situation, I figured it might be useful information. Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

There's no pain, redness, swelling or any other symptoms. It just gets warm then cools off periodically throughout the day.
