So I have gone to the doctors twice over the past two months because I have been having pains in my chest and upper abdomen. I went once in May and again just yesterday. Both times I had an EKG test done and I also had tests done for gallbladder, and stomach bacteria. Both of my EKG's came back normal, and according to both doctors my heart looks great. The tests for gallbladder and stomach bacteria also came back negative. So both doctors think that I am suffering from severe heartburn. The first doctor told me to take over the counter medication and the second doctor prescribed me omeprazole.
While I trust their professional opinion, there are still worries and questions that I have because I am in a significant amount of discomfort. Granted, the doctor said the omeprazole would take a few days before I see any noticeable results, so maybe I should calm down.
However, I just wanted to know what severe heartburn can feel like. And how do I know if my symptoms are severe heartburn and not something like a heart attack? I never have any major pains in my chest, usually discomfort and burning pains. My heart also feels like it is going to beat right out of my chest and it occasionally flutters, the latter happens when I am lying down. I also get a weird metallic taste in my mouth whenever the symptoms really flair up. Most of my pain also feels like it is at the top of my chest, not in the center or the back. I also feel burning sensations across my upper abdomen when the symptoms become very bad.
In all, I am probably just over reacting and causing unnecessary stress on myself, but I just wanted to know if I should go to the hospital or keep taking my medicine.
