Why do I ever-so-often take a deep breathe?

My dad did it and I do it too.  It just one big deep breathe.  There's no relation to any activity or time of day.  It's probably 5-10x per day.  What might this be indicative of?

You may be suffering from anxiety attacks or any kind of allergy. You must see a doctor for the same.

Hello~Some folks do this in response to anxiety, or just out of habit, I know I do it often but it is nothing serious. However, it is always best to check with your physician to make sure all is well..

I have also been told by my ex that I have sleep apnea which does not last too long before taking a deep breathe and returning to normal breathing.

Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums.  Thanks for the question.  It may be wise to make an appointment for a physical and to speak to your doctor about this at this time.  However, this may simply be a normal response to things like anxiety.  A need to inhale deeply can be associated with that. Another possibility is asthma. So, please talk to your doctor.  By the way, what is your age?

I'm 50.  Since I originally asked this question, I have been diagnosed with anxiety, sleep apnea and type 2 diabetes. Thanks for your answers!
Thank you for letting us know what the issues were. I am glad you found out what was causing the problem.
