Sounds like you could be having a lumbar disc problem. I have a herniated disc at L4-L5, and although my symptoms are not quite as severe, they are similar.  I have had cortisone injections into my left facet joint (the joints on the sides of your spine where the nerve bundles come out) that have been very successful treating the pain.  The injections are not fun, and not everyone has as much success as I have had with them, but it would definately worth looking into.
