Scared about my upcoming surgery to remove carotid body tumor.

Next Tuesday they're removing a tumor from my carotid artery, and I'm freaking out a bit. I'm curious if anyone here has had this surgery, and what I can expect as far as pain afterwards. Or just what your experience was with it I  general.

I've had surgeries before, but never with a large incision in such a dangerous location. Any tips on how to deal with the anxiety beforehand? It's less than a week away.
