problems after yeast infection

About a year ago I thought I had a yeast infection and I used monistat. I had an allergic reaction and the doctor thought it was herpes. She gave me diflucan anyway just in case.  A culture and blood test said negative for HSV1 and 2.  The diflucan caused me to get a bacterial infection and then the medicine for that caused an actual yeast infection.  Since then I have not felt normal.  I only have relief when I have my period or for a few days when I have discharge.  It's like an itchy, dry, swollen and warm feeling. I have gone back to the doctors 10 times, 2 of them were specialists.  They haven't seen yeast or any kind of infection.  They don't see lesions suggesting herpes.  I feel a blood test after 3 months is accurate, but could it be wrong could it in fact be herpes?  The symptoms don't really come and go but I notice sometimes I'm red and irritated down there. Sometimes when I walk there's like this sharp cut-like feeling  The last doctor said I need to leave myself alone because the doctors before probably gave me too much medicine. She gave me an anti-inflammatory/antifungal though because I insisted I'm always uncomfortable. I'm wondering if it is possible that too much diflucan/anti yeast remedies could make me feel worse in the long run?  I don't understand what's going on with me.  I don't know if it's hormonal or just my skin.  I get regular periods. My diet is somewhat healthy. I do have a sweet tooth.  I was even checked for diabetes a few months ago.

I'm scared. I've never had sexual intercourse (thought I have done a little of other things) and I'm afraid I wont ever be able to because it's an std or I dont know.  I don't know why I'm always in pain down there.  I wish I had never gone to that first doctor...this all seemed to start when I got a yeast infection...and had I known not to self medicate I probably would have been told there was nothing wrong and just left it alone. : (

Please help!

Hi

Thank you for your response.  I was just wondering a couple more things.  What are the chances that this is in fact herpes?  I sometimes feel slight burning in my thighs as well as vaginal area.  Also, I was reading about Cytolitic vaginosis...could it be that the anti fungal pills (I took many through out the year) and all the probiotics are causing a build up of Lactobacillus?  I read that sometimes this can cause similar symptoms.  The only time I ever get relief is when I have my period or the second week after my period ends but usually just for a few days....

Hi!
I can't tell you how many women have posted in this story in this forum over the years.
The stories are all very similar, and usually begin with a UTI or a yeast infection.  I wish I knew exactly what is going on with these ladies and how to cure it, because it is SO common!

One thing I have told many women and it seems to help--the doctor who said DONT take any more medicine is right.  What you need to do now, is to let your body heal and restore its natural balance.  I encourage women to use probiotics and/or yogurt with live cultures of lactobacillus.  I also encourage them to use vegetable shortening (Crisco) topically for relief of symptoms.  I know this sounds crazy, but it helps!

If I hear more about this syndrome, or how to cure it, I will definitely post an article!
Until then, this is the best I have to offer.

Good luck!
