RESULTS CONCLUSIVE

I explain you my problem:

• 26 days after exposure: HIV DUO test negative.

• 31 days after exposure: result indeterminate, because HIV DUO test slightly positive (2,23 over a cutoff of 1) and Western blot negative. They told me in that clinic that since they had still blood from my first test taken the 26 day, they carried out a 3rd generation test and was also slightly positive. So they consider it an indeterminate result.

After that I test in another clinic and the results were all negative:

• 33 days after exposure: 4th generation test negative.
• 37 days after exposure: 4th generation test negative.
• 58 days after exposure: 4th generation test negative.

Questions:

1.- Can I consider the negative results conclusive?

2.- Do I have to retest at 12 weeks?

3.- Can I have unprotected sex with my husband without the fear of spreading HIV.

4.- What can be the reason for the sliglty positive results?

Thanks for your answer.

Hello and thanks for the post

1.- Can I consider the negative results conclusive?

yes, the tests done at 33,37 and 58 days after exposure prove beyond doubt that you are HIV negative

2.- Do I have to retest at 12 weeks?

no, the tests you have had establish quite definitely that you are HIV negative

3.- Can I have unprotected sex with my husband without the fear of spreading HIV.

yes

4.- What can be the reason for the sliglty positive results?

occasionally - not very often at all - this happens and we do get an initial indeterminate or reactive result. Some people will go on to repeatedly generate these results but in your case this looks to be isolated. You are though firmly established as an HIV negative result.

kind regards, Sean
