HIV by lick on piercing (during lap dance)

Dear Doctor. A quick question. Last wednesday I visited with a collegue a night club and I got a private nude lap dance. Normal lap dance, nothing out of the ordinary. She was nude on top of me and while performing the dance she licked my ear and later my nipple. The stripper did this for three times during the dance. It was just a lick with the tongue and gently sucked my nipple and ear (3 times).

After dance everything was normal, just some wetness on my ear... That was all.

I know saliva is not a risk for HIV and I also know that I need to have a wound to consider it a risk situation. What worries me is that I have a piercing on the ear the girl licked and sucked. The piercing is quite old, I had it done on 2003, stop using it for some years and start using it again a year back from today, around the end of 2012 (when I start using it again the piercing hole was almost closed, so it took me some work to open it again with the piercing and it bleeded slightly but just for a moment. That was on Dec 2012, after that I used it all the time and no bleeding or pain)… It is a normal piercing on the ear lobe (around 1mm thick ring). It looks fine, never bleeds, never hearts, feels natural. During the dance the piercing remained intact, I mean it did not bleed or heart…

Is there any risk, I mean for HIV, from the activities I described?

As the girl licked and sucked my ear, will the piercing on my ear considered a risk factor for HIV?, of course assuming the girl was HIV positive and had bleeding gums or something traces of another client body fluids (sperm or precum)…

I think it is a “no risk” situation but I just wanted to be sure, specially now that I have a three months old son who is lactating and I do not want to put him or my wife in danger.

You probably read it correctly.  There were a couple of typos in my initial reply. I posted a corrected version, probably just as you were adding these comments.

Doctor, many thanks for your answer I feel relieved and back to normal life :). You mean "An old, healed piercing would be NO risk even if exposed to HIV infected blood"?... I guess it was just a typing error, but as english is not my native language I better ask...

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

Based on the title of your question, before reading anything else, I am sure you are not risk for HIV. The virus is not carried in saliva; in fact, saliva kills HIV.  So even if your licking partner has HIV, there is no risk.

Now I have read the details of your question.  My reply would be the same even if you had just had your ear pierced.  Healed ear piercings have intact skin -- they aren't sites of virus access to the bloodstream.  In other words, your old, healed piercing site would be no risk even if exposed to HIV infected blood.  In addition, it is the rare stripper who has HIV, so it is unlikely your lap dancer was infected anyway.

So this indeed was a no-risk situation. No worries, no need for testing, and you can safely continue your normal sexual activities with your wife.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
