Please help - Advise!

HI,

Two weeks a go i've had unprotected oral(receptive) sex with prostitute, and protected vaginal.
5-6 days after that i developed fever(38.5-39C) for two days and stufy noas. I was at my doctor(dint tell about unprotected sex) and he first diagnosed viral infection and after blood test diagnosed urinal infection. In my blod test WBC was high and there was 8-10 leucocites and mass of bacteria in urine.
Today two weeks after posible exposure im realy anxious, im having night sweets, and my body temp is about 37C all day exept night when it goes to 36.5.
Im  worried about pisible HIV infection and how can i protect my wife and little child from posible transmition. This is the main issue for me now.
When is best time to take test?

Please advise?

Yes, your resutls just confirm what I have already told you.  Your exposure was no risk and now you have good test results which serve to confirm this as well.  You do not have HIV.  EWH

Yes, that would be a good test.  I am confident that the result will prove that you did not get HIV. EWH

Last answers.
1.  symtoms are useless for guiding decisiopn making.
2.  Your risk for HIV is lower than your risk for being hit by lightening.

That said, you are very anxious. thus for that reason and not because of a medically based concern, I suggest you get an HIV antibody test at 6-8 weeks following your exposure.  At that time you will have laboratory confirmation that your fears are unfounded.  I hope you will succeed in moving forward before then.

this ends this thread. EWH

You really must have read my note wrong or be really nervous.  Your chance of getting HIV is about the same as your chance of being hit by lightening.  It is not something to worry about.  EWH

Welcome to our Forum.  the risk of getting HIV from receipt of oral sex is very, very low.  please remember that even though your partner was a commercial sex worker, chances are that she did not have HIV.  If she did, the quoted figure for HIV risk, if one has oral sex with an infected partner is less than 1 in 10,000 and, in my estimation that is too high. Some experts state there is no risk at all from oral sex.  Neither of us on this site have ever seen or reading the medical literature of a convincing instance in which HIV was passed by oral sex.  It is far, far more likely that your doctor is right and your stuffy nose and other symptoms are due to a cold or other community acquired, non-STD viral infection, not HIV.  If your symptoms were due to HIV, your blood test for HIV would almost certainly be positive about a week after your symptoms began.

One more comment however.  You mention that your urine specimen had white blood cells in it.  This could represent non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) which is one of the few STDs which result from unprotected oral sex.   This problem can be readily treated with antibiotics.  you may wish to discuss this further with your doctor.  EWH

Dear dr. Hook,

thanks for your supporting words and help me go thru this.
This was scary experience and i learned something from it.

When you are in risky situation think about you family and people you love.

In my case i was scared first for helath of my child and wife then for posibility to lose them and after that for my own health and life.

Be safe not sorry!!!

Best regards to all and again thanks for support.

But family health is on first place.Sorry becouse im nervous but please understand. This is my first sexual error and i cant get over the filling that im infected, and fever was primary consern for me. I read about low risk of oral exposure but your first answer left me some space to suspect.
