Risk of contracting HIV after performing fellatio with a sore on inner lip?

Hello ~ I recently had an encounter with a guy I met at a club and we ended up making out. I noticed after kissing for a while that I had a little trauma to the inside of my top lip; probably his teeth had scraped the inside of my lip causing a little bit of an opening, but no bleeding. I performed fellatio on him and he ejaculated in my moith. He had been tested for HIV, but wondering how high the risk is for contracting HIV performing fellatio with a sore on the inner lip? Also wondering about risk of contracting other STD's as a result of doing this. I do get tested every 6 weeks for HIV, chlymadia, gonnorhea, and syphillis and will be going to my doctor again in 6 weeks to get tested.

Welcome to our Forum.  There is no appreciable risk of HIV from performing fellatio on this man despite the presence of a recent sore on your lip.  The quoted figure for HIV risk, if one has oral sex with an infected partner is less than 1 in 10,000 and, in my estimation that is too high. Some experts state there is virtually no risk at all from oral sex and we are among them.  Neither of us on this site have ever seen or reading the medical literature of a convincing instance in which HIV was passed by oral sex.  This includes by all of the people who had oral sores, gum disease, etc.

There are no STDs, other than perhaps cold sores, which you can get from kissing.  From fellatio there is a slight risk of getting gonorrhea and, if the person has a sore on their penis, the disease that causes the sore (herpes or syphilis).  As far as testing is concerned, if you were to get syphilis or herpes you could develop a sore at the site of exposure.  No sore, no reason to worry. As for gonorrhea, best to have your throat tested for gonorrhea when you get your regular check up.

I hope this comment is helpful. EWH
