Very Worried. ....To dr hhh

Hello Doctor.  I am sorry to post again but I wanted to ask you something. After cheating on my wife with an ex gf (comdom used during vaginal sex but not oral....she did oral on me only).   7 days later I got a mild sore throat. I got stressed out thinking about ARS and went to STD in la. 15 days after sex.  I got a pcr DNA test and a clearview finger price test.both test neg.  Also got a shot and 4 pills as prevention for stds. 6 days after the antibiotics shot and pills I noticed my tounge is yellow.  I try to scrap it off but it work come off and when I look at it closely it looks a little hairy. It also does not look like and pics on Google when I searched for thrush.. It does not hurt at all but can taste a sour taste in my mouth.  The anxiety or guilt that I have cheated is really stressing me out

But my question can the neg pcr dna test and finger price test rule out the HIV...

can the yellow toung be from the high single does of antibiotics

. Also the pcr DNA test said.  .43 what does that mean. The STD doc said the test is very sensitive and it is neg. I looked at the paper result and it said .43 i asked what does .43 mean he said it is not for me to worry about.   He also said that in his whole life being a doctor he has never seen someone test pos after negative result on pcr DNA. I am sorry to ask you but I would really really be grateful for a answer please......thank you.  Me 29yo heterosexual male in LA. Thank you again

It is not normal to be so irrationallly resistant to overwhelming evidence and reasoned reassurance.  Therefore, the next logical step is professional mental health evaluation.  I suggest it out compassion, not criticism.

This thread is definitely over.  This is not a counseling service, so I will have no more comments.

Thank you doctor. Just got off of work and noticed I had a dry month....looked in the mirror and my tounge was complety white.  Just after one day I put it all togather I fell like I am back at square one.  I wish I could just rule out HIV with my tests, but I can't figure it out. I don't know anymore.   Thanks for all the help doctor.

Glad you finally got it.  I agree with all you were told by your own doctor, and I endorse your lesson for other users:  be cautious of web searches when anxious or "under stress" as you put it.  Such persons are naturally drawn to information that confirms their worst fears, rather than the more accurate reassuring information that also is there.  When worried about HIV or any other health concern, limit your search to professionally run and moderated agencies; and be wary of any and all personal testimonials!  Data are always more reliable than individual claims.

Thanks for the offer of a donation.  I suggest the American Foundation for AIDS Research (www.amfar.org) or the American Social Health Assocation (www.ashastd.org).  Disclosure:  Dr. Hook and I are on ASHA's Board of Directors.

Please forgive me for the way I sounded and the way I kept asking the same question.  It took a while for me to understand my test results. I went back to the std doctor in la.  He told me that what I thought was thrush was not and in fact my tongue looked very normal. Also the reason he told me that further test not needed because I used a condom and oral does not really pose a risk. And that the test I took was not the pcr dna it was the rna test which he called ultra sensitive but with all this told to me I still was having a hard time believing til I read a post that stated that when a person is infected the virus multiplys. That when the rna test comes in to play. Mine was negative. Then if the virus is in the system then antibodies are made and the clearview antibodie test will show. Mine was also neg.

Now after looking at these results coupled with my low risk encounter I understand why the STD doc and dr hhh told me not to worry and forget hiv.  Anyway that the way I understood my test results and when it clicked in my head the anxiety and stress was gone why because it made sense. I should not try to be a doctor over reading stuff on the internet. Doctor have experience training and book smarts to understand this stuff unlike me searching Google understress. Well that is that.   Thank you for your patients doctor........I would like to ask for a last comment on what I wrote and I would like to make a donation to your charity of choice.  Take care

I saw this comment before I replied above.  If you remain concerned about any symptoms, discuss them with your doctor.

This thread is over; there will be no more discussion.  Also please note the MedHelp policy that permits no more than 2 questions every 6 months on the professionally moderated forums.

I have nothing to add to our previous discussion.  Your test result is reliable; the numerical value is well within the negative range.  Test results always outweigh symptoms and the negative results proves your symptoms are not due to HIV.  Your doctor is exactly correct you should not be worried.  Please accept the reassurance and go on with your wife.
