ARS and HIV

Hi,

I had 2 risky encounters with men and am scared with the symptoms I am having. I am a bi male who had receptive sex without protection. The first time was on June 7th and the second time was on June 21st.

On June 21st I developed a brief fever that was gone when I woke up on the 22nd. I started to develop a sore throat that day though. On the 24th I still had a sore throat and developed a rash over my throat, arms, and upper chest. This rash lasted about 2 days, but I still had a bad sore throat. On July 1st I went to an ENT doctor and he thought I had tonsillitis so he gave me some medication and my symptoms started to go away within 1 day. By July 3rd and 4th i was feeling almost normal. The following week of July 5th-10th I felt pretty good. On July 11th I started to feel ill again and developed another brief fever on the 12th, but it seemed to be gone by the 13th. I started to feel nauseated this day however, and had problems eating and drinking. On July 15th I developed a high fever and decided to go to the doctor the next day. When I woke up on the 16th I felt ok. While going to the doctor I developed a slight rash on my arms, chest, and back.

The doctor pushed and hit some areas of my stomach, back, and abdomen and it made me want to vomit. He also took a blood sample and my wbc was 700 something. I decided to admit myself into the hospital though due to my fever and feeling nauseated. While in the hospital they did x-rays, ultra-sounds, a spinal tap, and ct scan. Everything was ok. My fever got very high, around 103-104 and this lasted from the 16th - 25th. My rash would also come and go. The doctors were not sure what was causing my fever, so they said it was a fever of unknown origin. They also told me on 2 separate occasions that I don't have HIV. I don't trust them though. My symptoms seem like HIV. I also have 2 slightly swollen lymph nodes in my neck and some minor body aches.

I was released from the hospital on July 25th and still had a moderate fever, but was given medication for it. My wbc had dropped during the week, but was back up to 800 something. My rbc count was low though, and the doctors said something about anemia. I have a check-up on the 30th.

Do these symptoms sound like HIV or ARS? The doctors said it's a virus. They said they tested for HIV and it was negative, but I don't believe them. The symptoms just fit too perfectly with the time frame for HIV.

Please help.

Thank You

Thanks Teak for your insight. I just got back from the Dr. for a follow-up. My WBC is 1100 and my rbc is 591 now. He said they tested 2x and they were negative both times. I'm still going to test in 2 months though.

No it doesn't sound like ARS. If you had unprotected anal sex then you need to test out to 3 months post your LAST unprotected sex.
