Am i at risk for HIV if i performed oral sex but no ejaculation?

Hi. I’m a 50 yr old gay man and I’m very careful of my health until 8 days ago, i sucked a gay man whom I encountered in the gym. I don’t know his hiv status. I sucked him gently for few seconds( around 6 strokes). No deep throat. No Ejaculation. I’m not sure if he had pre ***. What I worry about now is I’m not sure of my oral health. I brushed my teeth around 2 hours before it happened. I’m not sure if my gums bleed. Really anxious and worried, I went to a clinic for PEP. Was tested negative for HIV, HEPA B and other STD. The nurse told me that my possible exposure is LOW RISK. He gave me a 2 drug regimen(TRUVADA) as PEP. Started my first pill, 39 hours after the possible exposure. Today is my 9th day of taking it. My questions would be: Do I need to worry about this LOW RISK activity? Is the 2 drug (TRUVADA) PEP regimen good enough for me? I’ve read in CDC that since 2013, WHO guideline for PEP has 3 drug regimen? Is the nurse doing the right thing? I’m very much worried now. Hope you can give light to my situation. Waiting for your reply. Thank you so much......HURL

It's always good to be aware and safe when having sex.  Oral sex is not a risk.  I find it very disheartening that any medical professional gave you PEP for oral sex which is very uneducated.  Putting your body through that is needless for that exposure.  Unless you were very difficult with anxiety in the office and convinced them you had to have it or you wouldn't leave.  Then it is on you but otherwise, that doctor is dangerous to their patients because of lack of knowledge. The only way that people get HIV is from unprotected vaginal or anal sex (penetrating) or sharing of IV drug needles. That is it.  Oral sex presents nothing but a 'theoretical' risk which is not a real risk. Not a single person has ever been documented to have gotten HIV from oral sex.  I'd stop PEP immediately as that drug is very hard to tolerate and is not needed here.

It's important to know your risks and what will and won't transmit HIV. The way people get HIV is pretty straight forward and if you don't do those three things (vagina sex without condom, anal sex without condom or share IV drug needles) you will NOT get HIV.  You had no risk.

Thank You very much for the swift informative reply. I was so anxious after it happened. Maybe my mind was running wild with all the information that I’ve read in the internet. I was just lost and don’t know what’s the right thing to do in 72 hours. That’s why I went to the clinic right away. Now I’m learning a lot from people who share their knowledge about HIV. And I promise to share this to others. My sincere appreciation to all of you. God bless you more.
