Anyone using the combination drug of efavirenz, emtricitabine & tenofovir? Need help please!

My mother has been recently diagnosed as HIV positive. The doctor has put her on a complex regimen involving a one a day pill (combination of efavirenz, emtricitabine, tenofovir). It's called viraday, same as Atripla. She started that yesterday and whole night was having a bad itch all over the body.

Anyone experience the same or other side effects? How is the combination drug working for you?

She's also prescribed Bactrim (or Septra). She's been taking that for 5 days now. Any chance the itch is because of this drug. or a combination of the two!

Thanks.

Thanks Lizzie I really appreciate ur comments. The reason for my anxiety, rather i'd say fear, is that her immune system is very weak and her CD count is under 50 with 750000 viral load, so any change for the worse, is very upsetting emotionally.

Anyway I checked the website u & teak recommended, it's quite informative thx both of u!

AidsMeds has an extensive section on meds. If you have a question that you can't seem to find the answer just ask Newt he'll be able to advise you.

i am so sorry to hear about your mother and the problem she is having with her meds.   my son was diagnosed this past april.   the site that i have found to be the most informative to me has been aidsmeds it is divided up into different categories and there is even a couple for ppl like us...having a loved one who has hiv.  i am sure it probably has a section on meds...but if it doesn't please feel free to join and post.

i know the emotions that you and your family are going through right now...but believe me when i tell you that it does get better.   now hiv is just part of our everyday life.   my son is thriving and almost, if not already, to the undectable level.   you can send me a private message if you need to talk, vent, or even ask questions.   i am still learning alot myself...and there is soooo much more to know about this disease...if i can help...just let me know.

God bless you and your family,
kim (mother of christian, hiv+)
