Biotin interference on only HIV antibody test

Hi,

I got tested for HIV1/HIV2 antibodies using tridot test in a lab(outside window period). It came back NONREACTIVE.
I was taking zincovit multivitamin tablet daily once since 20 days ago before my test. Each tablet contains 150mcg/0.15mg of biotin in it. I took the test after 14-15hrs of my last dose.

1.Can you please let us know if this much quantity of biotin would have an interference on my test results. I started taking it before 20 days of my test.
2. Some websites says the biotin intake >1mg has interference on these tests. Is it true for tridot antibody test? Should I check with manufacturers of this test? How can I?
3. Do you think I have to retest or consider my results conclusive?

I'm getting married next month and very much worried about results being false negative.

If you were really infected, antibodies would have certainly formed and it would have been detected by the test. Your test is not affected by the biotin, but checking with the manufacturer as you suggested is always the best way to get correct information.

I'll try my best to check with manufacturer. But if this much quantity would have an interference with test results do you think we would have seen false negative by now? I see comments from Dr. Handsfield that it's urban myth. And Dr Hook saying it's a theoretical risk on asktheexpert forum. I read all the available information on internet and all saying high dose i.e. >1mg / day.

Hi Mike,

Can you please help me so that we can check with J. Mitra, manufacturers of tridot test.

Thanks

You must be very anxious because you haven't understood any of my answer, and instead are repeating the same question.
I'm Sorry. Your reply "Your test is not affected by the biotin" meant it's conclusive?

I read another threads here where you and guitarbox mentioned that this multivitamin 150mcg biotin dose won't affect test.

I'll surely mail or call manufacturer and update here what they say if only I get a reply from them. I hope Mike also could help me with that.
No one here needs an update. Our advice was clear and you even quoted it. I'm not sure why you don't understand the advice.

Perhaps I was confusing when I stated "checking with the manufacturer as you suggested is always the best way to get correct information." I will restate my first post below so you can ignore the initial post today.
If you were really infected, antibodies would have certainly formed and it would have been detected by the test. Your test is not affected by the biotin, so move on and enjoy your life.
Thank you!
This is pretty much signed, sealed, and delivered, but you're taking a very small amount of biotin.  Multivitamins don't have a lot of anything in them, and if you're taking your average one a day they have hardly anything in them.  You state your research shows levels greater than 1mg "might" affect the test, but you then state you're not taking anywhere near that much.  I doubt biotin affects the test in any case, but in your case, you're not even taking the amount you say "might" affect it.  As Anxious says, and do take his advice, move on and enjoy your life.  Peace.
I checked with the tridot manufacturers and as per them they don't use biotin technology for this specific test.
Does that mean I'm clear?
What are the chances of false negatives? Has this forum seen the test results changed from negative to positive in 2nd test(even the first antibody test was taken after 6 months of risky exposure). I don't know when I'll be at peace.
Your test is conclusive and you do not have HIV.  It is long past time to move on from this event.  If you are not able to do so, professional counseling is in order.

What was your risk of hiv that you got tested for? Oral, anal, vaginal and did you use a condom?
