Testing Window for NYC

Hi,

I recently had a one night stand with another male partner where the condom came off half way through.  Stupidly, I continued sans condom.  I was the top.  Its come to my attention that he was in fact, HIV+.  The night in question was 5 weeks ago.  I've gone to the doctor (I live in new york city) and had both a Rapid Test and an HIV 1/2 EIA Ab Screen.  Both of which were negative.

I have a few questions:
1) How can I tell if my EIA test was the 3rd or 4th generation?
2) What is the confidence of a negative result 5 weeks after exposure for either 3rd or 4th generation tests?

Thank you very much.

PS.  I promise I'll never be so stupid to put myself in this situation again.

This discussion is related to 4th Generation Test.

OK. Did you continue anal sex without condom protection? If this is the case then you will need to test 12 weeks post that event.

Did it come off completely or did it just slide down half way on your penis or was it hangout of his anus?

Hi Teak,

Thanks very much for taking the time to respond.  I'm not sure I full understand your point.  Though the encounter started off initially with a condom, the later half (including full penetration) was done without protection.  How would that mean that I never had exposure?

My apologies for any ignorant questions.

Thanks
