Test 4 weeks vs. 6 weeks

Dear all,

I'm new to this forum. I joined because a friend of mine had an HIV exposure and has been pretty anxious about his results. I was wondering if anyone can advise on the conclusiveness of hiv modern results.

Are results deemed conclusive at 28 days or at 44 days? have there been people who tested negative with a fourth generation test at 28 days, only for there results to change at 44 days or 3 months after an exposure in the case of no other exposures? Also, are test results affected by taking medication like PreP and PEP? my friend said he was taking "hiv pills" so what the timeline be for his testing in this case?

Thank you all.
God bless.

and to add a caveat, this friend tested at 29 days after exposure, and 62 days after exposure, both times negative. His doctor however says his results are not conclusive until the 3 month cut-off listed in the CDC guidelines. Is this doctor wrong?
