hiv is not transmitted through casual contact.  there is absolutely no reason for you to fear this person.

hiv is transmitted through...
unprotected vaginal / anal intercourse
sharing iv drug works
mother to child

Thank you for answering me back....knowing what it means is going to help me feel more relaxed around the person. I am scared and don't want to seem like an ignorant *** or even an *** around this person because I do like and enjoy their company and would like to continue to be friends.

1. Undetectable means the virus not being able to be detected by the testing technology.

2. Undetectable necessarily doesn't mean that one is HIV negative, one can be HIV positive and yet fare an "undetectable" result on a NAT Test considering their viral load being extremely low to no due to non progression or drugs prescribed to them.

3. Undetectable is a terminology that is associated with the antigen testing as they directly look for the gentic HIV material unlike the antibody test which looks for the immune response to the infection, an antibody test result is often declared as present / absent or positive / negative.

Hope this helps.

What if they tested positive and now are undetectable...What does that mean? Does that mean that they no longer have HIV?

Means no antibodies were found in their tests, i.e. They are negative.
