Gave ** with a bloody tonsil

I gave a guy unprotected oral sex and received ejaculation in my mouth on Sept 2. He claimed to be clean and was forced tests by his job in law enforcement.

My left tonsil has a huge "crypt" in it that used to collect tonsilloliths (tonsil stones) and yellow gunk. I clean it out every so often with finger pressure with a water-pick type instrument. Sometimes there is blood after I'm done removing all the gunk. I know I should get this dealt with but lack the time or funds at present. Well the day I did this I realized my tonsil was leaking blood, so I worry the usual barrier the mouth/GI tract provides against HIV may have been compromised.

Two days after this I became extremely, profoundly tired. The next few nights my throat (soft palate/back of throat) became very itchy, and I experienced strong night sweats and chills. The next 13 days it got worse: my old cold sores on my upper lip began outbreaking; I completely lost my appetite and had (not watery but always evacuating) diarrhea so bad I would lose morning's food by evening. I had extreme weight loss and had to force myself to eat. I developed clusters of mosquito-bite like bumps (not really maculopapular) around my ankles and calves which itched profoundly and went away after the first week. My tongue has always been "geographic" but following this it developed a heavy white carpet-like growth on top (thrush?). After 15 days my appetite came back and the fatigue lessened and was able to sleep without being woken sweating overheated. But now 22 days in I still feel a concomitant itching in the throat and tingling in my coldsore at points throughout the day.

This is only sexual contact I've had in almost a decade. The guy continues to deny having any infection without giving reassuring proof or explanation of his risk behavior. I am lying low taking care of myself for now and, and will get an HIV test soon since the 3 week period is up. But I have mentally prepared myself for a positive test result and am currently taking preventative actions to protect people around me in case.

Given these symtpoms and the very high risk I put myself in with that tonsil wound, what are the odd's that I DON'T have HIV?

the best advice i can give you is to see a doctor as soon as possible....maybe you can go to the ER and get their opinion on your symptoms.

No, what I have is not a product of anxiety. Today was a bad day with diarrhea 4 times, losing all my food. My god-d**** cold sores are still tingling and trying to break out, I coat them with Abreva whenever it starts to tingle which is almost all day. And my tongue has this carpet like growth, I can see it and feel it in my mouth. My throat isn't soar but it keeps itching, along with the cold sore. This is freaking me the **** out.

Whatever's going on, I was healthy before my encounter, and all of these things are happening after it. This is not a minor issue. If anyone recognizes these things let me know what direction I should go. I am saving for a full spectrum test and am going to get an HIV test soon.

I second canermy, he has give you an excellent insight of your risk speculation.
"If you had open wounds, trust me you wont be giving a guy oral. Open wounds gush out blood and require stitches, which is not the case here, furthermore, saliva contains enzymes that actually deactivates the virus, oh I almost forgot, the guy maybe isnt Hiv pos. "

You seriously need to put this behind and move on, you don't even need to test.

For, the list of symptoms you mention, they are all classic anxiety symptoms. It has nothing to do with HIV.

Thanks again, I have read that too, but I've also read that it can start as soon as 2 days after exposure. I should stress that it was only my left tonsil, the one with the crypt/bleeding wound in it, that became itchy and irritated. Here's the symptoms outline w/o too much text

night sweats/chills
itchy throat
profound tiredness beyond any cold I've ever had
itchy bumps/rash on my ankles and legs
diarrhea and going 2 or 3 times a day
weight loss
white carpet like hairy tongue growth (leukoplakia? Thrush?)
old cold sore came out on my lip

I must say these symptoms I listed were severe, it's not like I was a little hot at night or a little tired - I was burning and sweating, and I could barely walk the stairs. I was scared to the point of tears, retracing my childhood and life. I have gotten over the worst of it during the first 13 days, but I still have trouble sleeping, fatigue, feel stiff, and that itchy throat in the morning. What else could it be?

from what ive read and gotten off the expert forum 2 days is too soon for ARS symptoms to show up...they say usually between 2-4 weeks...maybe you should see a physician and get his opinion on your symptoms but from what u described i dont think hiv is the problem...i hope you feel better soon.

Thank you for the supportive words, but oral sex is a risk if there are open wounds in the mouth/paths to the blood stream and there is contact of seminal fluids, which my damaged tonsil provided in this case.

But consider my list of symptoms (some of which remain as I write this), and remember, I essentially had an open wound in my mouth at the time that came in contact with seminal fluids.

What else could these symptoms possibly be? I believe it's always good to test to protect others.

'' I have mentally prepared myself for a positive test result and am currently taking preventative actions to protect people around me in case''. Thats soo wrong. Oral sex is not a risk. Testing is not warranted. Dont let something you dont have ruin your life, cause it has started to.
