Hi All -
I had a question about the HIV-2 window period. I am aware that the conclusive window period for a Duo (4th Generation) is 4 (or 6) weeks. I tested at 45 days and so I'm beyond the window; however, I am concerned about a potential HIV-2 infection. I am well aware that HIV-2 is rare in North America - however rare obviously does not mean non-existent. I have been following up with my doctor as I have had a number of symptoms - mainly neurological including significant peripheral neuropathy and partial facial paralysis (these are diagnosed and not just "in my head"). This followed earlier symptoms of chills, night sweats and rash on my forearms. There are new studies attesting to the prevalence of neurological symptoms in early HIV infection and mine fit the bill. Out of an abundance of caution, my doctor has recommended testing out to 90 days. My most recent test at 10 weeks was negative. Just wondering if anyone can offer any further guidance (scientifically speaking) regarding the window period for HIV-2 as I know it is less virulent and therefore expect it may take longer to trigger an antibody response - that coupled with the fact that the DUO does not test for HIV-2 antigen. Can I rely on my 10 week test result or should I continue testing? Appreciate any assistance.
