HIV Concern. Please Help

last week I was caught in the middle of a fight between several individuals while working security at a night club in Detroit.  Long story short while trying to stop a fight I was slammed to the ground by a person and busted the back of my head on the concrete where there was broken glass and a very dirty surface.  I ended up in the ER with 10 staples to the back of my head.  After falling to the ground I immediately grabbed the back of my head where I had a good 3-4 inch gash and applied direct pressure to stop the bleeding.  I definitely had  blood on my hands from another individual that was involved in the fight.  The blood that was on my hands would have been there for about a minute or two before touching my head and applying direct pressure.  If the other persons blood was infected with HIV, can it be transmitted to me in this way?  Would the virus have been dead all ready?  Should I get tested? Thanks for any comments, I have a wife and a young child that i do not want to put at harm.

Thanks.  Do you have a risk assessment on my exposure?

When HIV is transmitted via syringe/needle the infected fluids NEVER are exposed to the air. They go from vein to syringe. The infected material is then stored INSIDE the air tight syringe until it is INJECTED into a uninfected person for transmission to take place.

Hope this helps

"First off HIV isn't alive. It's either active or inactive and HIV is not transmitted outside it's host."

Teak, thanks for the reply but we know that hiv can be transmitted through sharing needles and that is outside the human body.

So the other persons blood touching my open wound would have not infected me if he was HIV+ because?  I read that Hiv can live outside the body for a few minutes

You never had an exposure and don't need testing.

since the accident I have been experiencing severe nausea and headaches which i believe are a cause of the injury.
