HIV symptoms or anxiety

Hi Dr.

I had protected sex with a CSW in Bangkok.   But they provided the condom. I completely missed out to check the make or brand or type or expiry dates of this condom. But it appeared intact through out the act. The massage place appeared very professionally managed though.

I had extremely high anxiety on the first 10-15 days. On day 13 after exposure I got a running nose (drip).  Day 14-15 had no running nose except  a bit of night sweats and low grade fever/chills.

Only  day 16 the running nose was back. Day 17-22 had mild sore throat and a dry cough that was on and off - I just garbled with salt water

Maximum fever recorded was on day 18 that was around 99.4. During these days I developed a minor dull pain around my pelvic /groin/testicle areas.  This pain was minor and was on and off for nearly 9-10 days. (i.e. till day 26-27 or so).

MY doctor tested my urine nearly 24 days after exposure and ruled out any prostatitis or bacteria presence in my urine. Urine test was normal. He said it could be a bout of common cold or So.

Today is 37th day post exposure and my anxiety is killing me. Are these mild symptoms of ARS? Right Now I don't have any of the symptoms except the dull groin/pelvic pain that keeps coming (very infrequent).

Contribution will soon  follow as I am really impressed with your initiatives.

Protected sex using a condom is NOT a risk for HIV. That is why it's called "protected". You had no risk.

Symptoms are never used to diagnose HIV and therefore those will not be addressed. But since you know you had zero HIV exposure then obviously it's not related. If you're sick, go see the doctor. But you have already ruled out HIV so that's not the problem.

No.. This was my first time with csw.that too wasn't planned for.
Am I at risk? The condom was intact.  But I don't know which brand/make/type. The cold,  sore throat like symptoms started exactly 2 weeks later. That's my worry. Am I at risk? Do I need testing ? What about the groin pain given that bacteria in urine was ruled out?

Protected sex is safe sex in regards to hiv. It doesn't matter what brand the condom is. As long as the head of your penis was protected from start to finish, then the condom did its job. You had no risk.

Anyways, if you're sexually active outside a monogamous relationship, it is advised to test for ALL STDs inclusive of hiv periodically.
