Hepatitis treatment and HIV test results

Hello doc,

I had hep-c 5 years ago and received treatment for 6 months. 4 months ago i was involved in a possible hiv exposure and had many symptoms. I got test with 4th generations test at 29 and 86 days post exposure both were negative. All STDs were also negative. But i still have occassional mild aches in groin and back of my ear. Last night i got 4 red spots on chest after itching.
Could hep-c treatment 5 years ago affect my hiv test result? Do i need to retest at 6 months?
Also please tell me if one has not yet seroconverted i.e have not produced antibodies then is it possible to still have p24 antigen in blood or the p24 antigen just show up 2 weeks before seroconversion?

Please help!

I developed Strep throat now at around 3.5 months. Doctor says it is strep throat as he checked with the camera. He didn't test for it though.
I am really worried that it might be due to HIV and i am seroconverting now.
Please suggest, do i need further HIV test at 6 months or now?

Anxiety is messing with your mind.
I've been there.
The internet can give confusing information as I've read both scenarios.
What is a fact is antigen peaks at 28 days.
You tested 29 days, excellent.
You tested again at 86 days and 84 days concludes the window period.
If you were hiv infected your first test would have been positive for antigen and possibly antibodies too.
Your second test would have detected Antibodies.
The Drs who used to post here have not seen an 8 week negative turn positive.
You have every reason to trust your results.

Thank you for reassurance, It might be just anxiety then.

Hi. It's my understanding that p24 can become undetectable without the development of antibodies.
A quick search is telling me 6 weeks.
However, your first 4th generation at 29 days is around the peak of antigen levels.
Your second 4th generation test is conclusive for antibody detection.
Below is a link, in the answer part please read "5".
It should help you trust your tests results.

So you are saying that p24 must appear initially and will stay until the antibodies clear them up. So if one has not yet seroconverted, p24 will always be there?
I am really looking for an answer from any subject matter expert.

Your test result is conclusive.. You don't have hiv.

Thank you for your answer but do you have any scientific theory to back your point?
Can you also answer the last question?
don't quote me on this but i read it just today somewhere that only acute hep c would delay seroconversion. but it sounds like yours was way past that and on top of that you were treated long time ago....

so i think your 86 days test looks conclusive.

Yeah I read that too, but I have also read that treatment can delay the seroconversion. Now the question is should it be the current on going treatment or treatment that was taken long time ago.
