I didn't know my moms friend was a doc at this obgyn place! And she gave me a slip to get blood done! She said it was weird how they told me 6 months ... she said 3 months is conclusive... anyway. What do u think???
Congratulations!  You are HIV-negative.  A screen is the same as a test, and yes, it was correct - 4th generation.  Put this event behind you now.
Ok just wanted to triple check to make sure it was the right 4th gen if thag makes sense! Thank u
She also told me thag the 4th gen is so sentive that it would pick up very new infections!

The six month window period has been outdated since 2004. And HIV does not "hide" in the body. That is something that ignorant people say when they don't know anything. I strongly suggest you find a new doctor because yours is very behind in basic knowledge that should be known by all doctors with a current medical license.

Hey thanks everyone!
So pretty my much after I take this 4th gen test at 70 days? I am good to go?
Also,,, I am from the us.... which lab do you think is better.... quest or laBcorp?
That is correct.  Take a test and you can put this behind you.  Both labs are reputable.  You can't go wrong.
Ok thanks!! :)

Hi me again!
I just spoke to my doc and she told me 6 months :( even for 4th gen.... she said hiv hides in the body and takes a while. Is there a test I can take for sooner results ( conclusive results) or do you think I should get a second opinion? Sometimes I feel like she doesn't know what she's talking about anyway ( past problems)

If you don't accept Curfew advice there isn't going to be anything else to say because this is anadvice forum and isn't a debate forum. We stick to expert doctor's advice.
4gen is the best test.
You know, as a general rule, I tell people to follow their doctor's advice, but this is just plain WRONG.  It has not been 6 months for years and years, due to the sensitivity of all modern tests.

HIV "hides" in the body? That is absurd, and is contrary to basic principles of immunology.  You deserve a better doctor who doesn't just make up stuff.

You might have better luck going to an STD clinic.   Like I said, you can take a 4th generation test (aka a DUO test or Ab/Ag test) at any time now and it will be conclusive.  If you aren't sure what test is offered, wait til 90 days post-exposure to be absolutely certain.  But even so, taking any test now will be a great indication of your status.  You could even get an Oraquick (if you're in the US) from a drugstore.
Hey, I wasn't debating.. I just called to get blood done at my docs and they told me the info above... she said not until 6 months bc that's how long it takes to show then went on explaining how it hides and etc,
I'll go to a new doc! Diff opinion doesn't hurt!

You only need to test one time, and if it's a 4th generation test (which you would get if you live in the US), any time 28 days or longer after your last encounter will be conclusive, and no, an STD won't change the timing or accuracy.  If it's been more than 28 days, test now for your conclusive result.

ok so what about this 6 month time for hiv to show I just read is that with this 4th test u mentioned??
Is 70 days ok?
I'm at 66 days now..
6 months is VERY outdated.  No one recommends that anymore.

If your test is 4th generation, ANY time after 28 days is conclusive.  If it isn't, then 90 days is conclusive, although that is probably very conservative.  Your 70 day result is not likely to change.
Ok, thank you for clarifying : )
