Hiv Transmission Risk

Hello about three weeks ago, I engaged in sexual activity with a female. I rubbed my penis on her vagina for about 30-60 seconds and she attempted to insert me inside of her. I’m fairly sure I never fully inserted myself in her vagina but I may have rubbed the tip of my penis near her opening. She after this she gave me oral sex and I ejaculated. What worries me the most is she was on her period and she was nearing the end of her bleeding.

About 4 days after my potential exposure, I developed a mild sore throat. It didn’t hurt just had difficulty swallowing. It went away after about a week. Exactly two weeks from my exposure, I developed some mild itching around my forearms, elbows, ankles, and somewhat of an itch on my neck/hands. I am fair skinned so I didn’t see any bumps or weird color changes. I also experienced some tired eyes here and there during my last three weeks and some weird forearm/hand pains. These could be due to stress or maybe because I work at a computer all day or stress.

I eventually caved and got a blood drawn hiv test at approximately 19 days after the encounter. Waiting for the results still..

1)Do my symptoms line up with hiv?
2)How long do the results take to get back to you?
3)Is it too early to test for hiv?
4)Are my symptoms too early? I heard that symptoms traditionally don’t begin until after two weeks.
5)what’s the risk of transmission in my case? She was on her period

Please help as I am worrying myself sick!

I want to say that I completely agree that you had no risk based on what you wrote. Rubbing a penis on the vagina whether she had her period or not is not a risk. Air is present which inactivates the virus.  Oral sex is also not a risk as air and saliva both are present, both inactivating the virus.  People do not get HIV the way you describe.  Unprotected vaginal and anal sex (full penetration required) and sharing IV drug needles are the only ways people get HIV.  And even with THAT, a single episode of unprotected sex is less than 1 percent chance of transmission. It's pretty hard really to get HIV.  You have NO reason to test.

Say that again, no reason to test.

If your anxiety is something that will make you irrational and you refuse to accept the science involved stating no risk, you wait until day 28 and test with a 4th generation Duo test.  Your test will be negative.  It's a waste of time and money. But don't bother testing until then.

1 Symptoms are not used to line up with hiv, so it is a waste of your time studying your body and recording any more of your minor "symptoms." Tests are used to prove what your status is.

You only need a test if you penetrate, but you didn't so it is time to move on. Her hiv doesn't crawl around on body surfaces because it's dead outside her body.

Thank you for the reply. Is testing at 19 days after exposure for hiv too early? I’ve seen some posts on this forum saying you should wait at least 28 days. Anxiety got the best of me I guess…

Not sure what type of hiv test I did but they definitely drew blood and sent it off to a lab. Still waiting on the results. They said it would take a few days. How accurate would my results be?
The scientists have determined it is accurate at 28. Not sure why you don't accept that you wasted your time.

You had no risk since you said you didn't penetrate. If you are unable to accept this, then test at 28 (and find out what kind they are using this time,)  but you should stop worrying in the meantime since this is just a placebo and you will receive a negative.
Okay thank you. To clarify, what test should I ask for beyond the 28 day mark? Could I do an antibody finger prick rapid test?

4 or 5 gen aka AB/AG aka duo. Since it's a placebo you could take any test that will give you a correct negative
- even a pregnancy test - however that won't ease your anxiety so do the duo.
