How Come Dr. Bob on the Body.com says that taking prednisone or having an autoimmune disease can alter or supress the antibody test. Im not sure about the autoimmune but i thought that Dr. HHH said that there is no medication outside of chemo that can alter test. Would Dr. Bob mean if you are taking the medication for long periods of time or can a couple of weeks of taking the medication alter the test.
i was taking the prednisone and the other stuff sometime back in early june and maybe in july to of last year, i cant remember really. I last tested negative in October 30 of last year.
exactly i posted the muscle building resource because most predisones are only a one week dose because it does weaken the immune system but i still feel it wont interfer with an hiv test result
Yeah i thought there was a difference. Plus like i said i wasnt taking any when i tested and i think i was already done taking them a couple of months before i tested.
anabolic steroid and predinosone are two different things, anabolic steroids which some gym nuts take willl not effect the test, predinsone in high dosages taken for a long time will effect the immune system, taking one week course of predisone is not going to do anything to your immune system,
Well im not sure about the different steroids out there but im talking like corticosteroids, the kind used for skin problems like rashes and such. I took prednisone and some other kind of oral steroid (not sure the name) but i took them for some rashes i was getting. With my last one being about a month maybe 2 before i tested negative.
Steroids do not mask antibody responses to HIV. If you have HIV infection it will show up on routine blood tests despite the use of steroids. . On another topic, use of anabolic steroids to build muscle mass is a pretty risky business. You may want to look into this a bit more or consult your doctor. There are some long term side effects that may not be worth the spot on the team.

your worried over nothing if that was the case when i took my 8 week test i was on predisone then and the dr said no drugs alter the test results why are you so worried now anyway
yeah i read that before, I think it may have some difference if you are taking it for a long time, because on the label that comes with the prednisone it says right on it. May reduce the immune system and be more prone to illness or something like that. When i tested i wasnt even on it anymore, it was a month or so maybe longer when i stoped before i took my test.
No medicine delays or alters HIV test results. In theory, certain immunosuppresive drugs might do it, but only in the giant doses used for potent chemotherapy--and even that is a theoretical concern, not a proved one. In any case, anabolic steroids are not an issue in this.

i took predisone for a week plus 2 shots for inflamation dealing with my shoulder and my drs knew my fear but they said the medication i was taking would not alter my hiv test

I had a high dose steroid injection at month 2 and then 3 prednisone pills at month 6, I'm not even worrying about them interfering with my result, I would think that they mean long term use, like months to years, not small courses of treatment.
so then how long would someone have to take corticosteroids for them to effect a test. 1 month, 2 months or what
taking high doses of steroids, meaning like 40 mg a day which i doubt you were on can suppress the immune system and you would have to be on it for a long time.
Well i tested negative in October 30 of last year but i was taking some oral steroids for some rashes that i was getting. I was totally comfortable with my results but i was reading on the body.com and i read where Dr. Bob said that corticosteroids could delay the seroconversion. But i didnt know if he meant by taking it for a long periods of time or currently taking it while you tested or if you took it about a month before your test and then you stopped for a month and then you tested negative.
If you have a concern, see your doctor. Nothing you've mentioned will delay or lengthen the window period.
long periods (read MONTHS) of corticosteroids taken internally could suppress the immune system. Not to the point of chemo levels, but it could. Dr. Bob never said anything about testing outside of 6 months. Quit causing more worry.
