Concerned about HIV

Hello everyone,

On 12th of January I had unprotected vaginal sex with a CSW. My ARS symptoms started as predicted around 25 days following the exposure. I had very strange rash, swollen glands, joint pain, terrible headache and very very sore throat with white tongue and when I wake up I have some white mucus in my mouth and on my lips.  Almost everything faded away within 2-3 weeks, except the sore throat with the white tongue and this white yuck on my lips. I had 4th Gen HIV test 40 days post exposure. It came back negative. So far, so good. Then I went for a full sexual health check up at day 75 post exposure. The HIV test was 3th Gen ELISA.  HIV, Hepatitis B,C, HSV-2 - all negative. Only HSV-1 antibodies were found.

The problem is that I still have swollen glands on my neck and under the jowl, the sore throat with white tongue. I visited my GP a few times, ENT center, they say that the don't see any serious infection only reddish throat and told me that this might be because of my weakened immune system due to HIV. I had full blood count and my WBC was 5,8 *10^3/UL (with normal values of 4,5 -10) and lymphocytes 27% (Normal range 16-40). I also lost almost 10kg since January .
Give me some advice what to do. I am feeling sick and unwell all the time. I just can't stand this anymore. My doctor referred me to infectious disease center, so I am going there next week.
I also had rapid HIV test at 83th day, also negative. Now I am waiting results from my 87 day 3th Gen HIV ELISA test..
Is it possible to be due to HIV or something else?
Is this HIV test at 12weeks and 3 days conclusive if negative?
Please help!

Teak,

Just want to brief on something. You know my case, I had unprotected sexual intercourse with a female sex worker in Thailand 14 weeks ago. I tested 10 times negative with the 4-th Generation and also 3-rd Gen HIV at 4,6,810,12 weeks.. But I knew that something is wrong with me, I have headaches every single day, sore throat for 2 months, fungal infection on my feet, that is not going away with any medications. So my doctor ordered a Western Blot. You know what happened? It turned out POSITIVE.
So everybody who says that HIV antibody test is good at 13 weeks, no it's not. I am the example. Maybe this strain that I have is in some way harder to be detected, I don't know but no test was able to detect my infection. I don't  know what to do now.  I was almost relieved that I am in the clear...

No I am not undergoing any of the above mentioned. I only used to go to gym every day before my exposure and I have been taking some supplements for the past 9 months. Can they have any effect on the HIV test? Also I have never had any problems with my immune system before the exposure, but since 3th week post exposure everything changed. As if I am another person. I have no apetite, I have sore throat with white tongue and swollen lymph nodes, I lost 10kg muscle weight and started looking like a walking skeleton. The problem is that this symptoms don't want to go away. It's the same every day...

I made an appointment with infectious desease doctor and I hope he could help me to settle if I have an immune problem. I have to do something, I need to get better, living with all this symptoms is nightmare!
Can you tell me what doctor should I  see to check my immune system?
I need an advice guys.

Thank you a lot for your help!

Have you been diagnosed with an immune disease and spend most of the time in the hospital?

"Which people seroconvert later than 3 months? Maybe I fall in this group"

Seroconversion happens  immediately after infection. the three months rule is the time allotted for all people to develop "detectable' antibodies.

It is conservative but official. You tested at 83 days. There is no chance you are infected.
Are you currently undergoing chemo?, organ transplant treatment?///are you a long term intravenous drug user?

Thanks Teak,
But how can you explain this 2 month sore throat with huge lymph nodes? Have in mind that I was getting sick very rarely before. Now I just can't get over this. Can I have one more test at 15/17 weeks just to be sure? And what is the chance to test positive? Which people seroconvert later than 3 months? Maybe I fall in this group.

You don't have an HIV concern. If  you feel unwell see a doctor, it has nothing to do with HIV.

Guys I'm feeling really sick. This sore throat is freaking me out. Also my lymph nodes at the neck and under the jowl are about to explode. I am feeling a severe pain in my neck. What am I supposed to do? My doctor said that he cannot help. I am getting really desperate now.
Teak, I know that you're the HIV expert here, please tell me could this be a HIV problem? How can I check my immune system? I tried almost everything already. Don't know what more to do...

If your symptoms were hiv related then you already seroconverted. Your problem is something else.

What if I need more than 3 months to seroconvert?
How can I be sure that my immune system isn't compromised?
Have you ever seen a case, where HIV weakens the immune system for  2 or 3 months? Do I need any further testing?

I just got the results from my 87 day test. Non-reactive again. What do you think might be the reason for this common unwellness. If I have compromised immune system do I have to test at 6 months again for a conclusive result? Really this sore throat and white tongue in combination with swollen lymph nodes and weight loss is suggestive of HIV infection. But then why all the tests I had are negative?
What test can I do to check if my immune system is properly working?
All doctors that I visited, told me those symptoms are most probably due to HIV infection and to retest later on.
Can you give me some advice because I am stuck in this situation?

Your 83 day hiv test was conclusive. Your results will not change in 7 days (90 day mark) keep working with your dr. Not an hiv concern. Next time use condoms and spare yourself the agony.
