Infection possibility.

Hi everyone,

Approximately 6 weeks ago I ran into an old friend who is rumored to suffer from HIV, but I have never myself asked her directly as I don't sleep with women and am not an IV drug user so I wasn't concerned. My question pertains to the IV  component of HIV transmission in this situation as it involves an earring post which is needle-like.

I hugged my friend in saying hello and during that contact my earring poked her. I am not certain, but I feel like anything pokey on that particular pair would be the post of the stud. Now, there is both external threading and a "divot" on the end of the post which could hold small amounts of fluid. If, by poking her, my earring picked up a very small amount of blood and then 30 second later I removed the earring pulling the post through my piercing hole, would that put me at risk for contracting HIV? I should mention it is not a new piercing and appears to be healthy. I have been in a monogamous relationship and we have both tested negative for every STD in the past 3 months so this would be my only exposure if it is indeed one at all.

HIV is not transmitted through environmental surfaces or inanimate objects.  once exposed to air, hiv becomes inactive and unable to infect.

Thank you for taking the time to answer. Is it true then that all "needles" in jewelry, such as earrings, carry the same zero risk for transmission regardless of surrounding circumstances?
