Can someone tell me if taking Truvada for PreP, can effect the accuracy of the at-home OraQuick test? I have Googled it and can't really find anything about the drug vs the test accuracy. I asked my PCP, who started me on PreP (at my request) and she said the test was fine to use.
This all started because I had unprotected sex with a man I was seeing off and on, back on 12/4/19. I got scared and went to be checked the next day and the ER doc started me on PeP. I had sex with him again on 1/1/20 but he didn't finish. I finished PeP on 1/6/20 and started Truvada the next day. I have been faithful with taking it, and had not seen this man since our last time together in January.
I started dating a different man mid-February and sex with him was protected (in the beginning) but the last few times were not; our last time together was 3/29/20. He WAS seeing another woman at the same time and was having unprotected sex with her, which I did not know about. I promptly dumped him.
I'm just worried now (because my mind likes to do this to me) that the 2 tests I have taken so far since starting PreP (both negative), aren't really negative. One was 72 days after the last encounter with guy A, and the other was 39 days after the last encounter with guy B. I will test again next week, which will be 90 days from guy B.
And please, don't judge - I'm a newly divorced woman after 24 years of marriage and yes, I've made bad choices and I admit it.
