Having horrible anxiety and fear surrounding HIV

I am a straight college female. I have had this fear since April of last year and it’s like a monster that keeps getting bigger and bigger. Every time I get peace of mind I lose it instantly. This time I’m freaked out because I got hit by a train of flu like symptoms. Fever, sore throat, body aches etc. But no nasal congestion and I tested neg for the flu and strep. The doctor said those could be false and that I had signs of viral and bacterial infection in my CBC and to get treated anyways. Could this be HIV? A few weeks ago I had sex with a guy and the condom came off when he pulled out and stayed inside me. The opening of the condom was still outside but is this a risk? Does any of this sound like HIV?

Hi an yes HIV fear can cause terrible anxiety but please feel at peace as you mention the condom opening was still outside so it would appear you were not exposed. Also understand that you being hetero sexual, you fall into a low risk group even if you did not use a condom and to add to that gettting HIV from a one time affair is really not something to be concerned about.
We dont diagnose hiv from sympotma because they could be from anything. You can test now with the DUO test to confirm to releave your anxiety if you want.

This answers all of your HIV questions, and if you can think of any more just reread about the 3. You had zero risk therefore  testing is irrelevant to your situation because you had zero risk. HIV is a fragile virus, which is instantly inactivated in air and also in saliva which means it is effectively dead so it can't infect from touching, external rubbing or oral activities. It doesn't matter if you and they were actively bleeding or had cuts at the time either because the HIV is effectively dead.
Only 3 adult risks are the following:
1. unprotected penetrating vaginal with a penis
2. unprotected penetrating anal sex with a penis
3. sharing needles that you inject with.
The only way to get HIV is if you did one of the 3. The situation you describe is a long way from any of these 3.
Even with blood, lactation, cuts, rashes, burns, etc the air or the saliva does not allow inactivated virus to infect from touching, external rubbing or oral activities. Doctors have calculated the risk from what you describe to be less than that of being hit by a meteor, therefore no one will get HIV from what you did in the next 40 years of your life either. The above HIV science is 40 years old and very well established, so no detail that you can add to your encounter will change it from zero risk.
Only the head needs protection, and since the opening of the condom was outside then there can't be any risk.
People cough on your lips and door knobs so flu or whatever you have is to be expected at any time and I am sure you have had lots in the past - flu doesn't just happen to people who have sex so you can feel safe and move on from this non-event. But if you can't move on, see a therapist because this is a long time to be wasting your life in agony over a non-event.
