now i cannot even swallow my spit, my throat feels so swollen its hard to swollow and my tongue is white.  this has to be the ARS.... never ever had this, and when i scraped the pimple off my head, it were big pimples that it dug the middle part out from the moutain like structure.  i CANNOT swallow, it is poking in the esphophus. please... this has to be it, please dont post "excessive negative comment things Teak." i am dead serious.  If i do go to the doctor, do i tell him everything happend? or do i tell him i want to have my physical done and have blood tests.  What do i tell him? I was going to wait 3  4 weeks for the hiv test, but i just cant stay like this with.  If I do say that i want my hiv test, how much will it cost? its been 13-14 days since the exposure.  will it be reported to the insurance and my parents receiving the bill? I am 24 years old.   PLEASE...PLEASE...

Ok.  I made an immediate appointment with a doctor today.  WHAT SHOULD I EXACTLY TELL HIM.  SHOULD I TELL HIM ABOUT EVERYTHING I DID INCLUDING HIV OR SHOULD I JUST PLAY WITH SORE SWOLLEN THROAT AND WHITE TONGUE AND SOME OTHER SYMPTOMS?  Should I ask him for a physical? including blood test?  Please advise as soon as you can.

Oh, and in the meantime, you're going to end up getting yourself banned from MH.  You need to take a serious chill pill.

No, it doesn't sound suspicious whatsoever...either you have some totally unrelated illness/infection/bug...or anxiety is wreaking havoc on you.

There is NO treatment available...you do not require any treatment.  Your "exposure" is really not significant.  You are making too many assumptions, like I told you yesterday.

PEP can only be given within 72 hours of a true exposure (meaning unprotected intercourse, or needle sharing with a confirmed + person).

Like I said...go to your doctor...I bet you he Dx'es you with a garden variety, common everyday illness.

Your sex was protected.  I know you don't believe that, but that is your mind playing with you.  The only way to be sure and put this to rest is to test...and we've already given you plently of guidance about testing.

Just b/c you had contact with a prostitute doesn't mean she was infected!!!  MOST of them are NOT!  They want to protect THEMSELVES too you know!

Really...you need to turn off your pc, go to the doctor and harness your anxiety...FAST.

I understand that this is not couseling service. Obviously I know that.  I just want some CLEAR explanation of why I am feeling these weird symptoms all at once since the day of exposure, such as WHITE TONGUE, Sore swollen throat, hand and feet pins and needle, WEIRD ENLARGED pimpes on my SCALP, painful STOMACH ache that led to diarrea in the middle of the night 2 day straight (which I NEVER HAD as PAINFUL)  DOESNT THIS ALL SOUND A BIT SUSPICIOUS ESPECIALLY AFTER I HAD SEX WITH A korean 45 year old prostistute?   Thats all.  Please advise what I should tell the doctor IF i do go visit him about my problems.  (white tongue and sore swollen throat is a big concern). Its been 14 days since exposure.  IS PEP A POSSIBILTY STILL OR DO I JUST HAVE TO WAIT 2-3 WEEKS.  CAN I RECEIVE SOME TREATMENT EARLY ON (as in right now).

first off...you have 23 posts/comments on this...and THAT is excessive posting ! ! !

secondly...most sex workers use condoms for a reason.  they do not have hiv and do not want YOU...their paying customer...to infect them.  if for some reason...the "situation" becomes unprotected...you better believe they get upset and you would know about it !

thirdly...your symptoms are NOT indicative of ars...but they are definitely indicative of anxiety.

fourth...you have been here long enough to know the testing guidelines IF you feel the need to test.

last but not least...THIS IS NOT A PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING SERVICE.  WE HAVE ADVISED YOU OF YOUR RISK/ OR LACK OF RISK.  WE CANNOT CONTINUE WITH YOUR RELENTLESS BANTER.

thanks for the response.  ok, so I need to be upfront and tell everything to him? what happend when the exposure was and etc...?  also  what about PEP option ? is it too late now?  also, I remember having some serious stomach ache while sleeping at night taht took me to the toilet.  it happened for 2 nights I recall.  It was very painful stomach ache and I never had it like that while I was sleeping.  THAT is WHY all these symptoms are very OBVIOUS.

I'm going to bed, I'm tired.  What I mean is the doctor will decide what kinds of tests you need depending on what he/she thinks it may be....he may order a CBC (lab) and a strep culture. It's pretty c;lear on physical exam if someone has strep or not.....but what he decides to order will be based on your exam.  As for the HIV tests...that is something you'll have to discuss with him.  He will likely recommend you wait, it is too soon.

And, my goodness, no...people aren't started on treatment as soon as they are diagnosed woth HIV!  They are monitored and put on meds if their lab values indicate it is necessary.  Some people go years....DECADES before taking any meds!

That's half your battle here...you have allll of these typical misconceptions about HIV.

Go to your doctor...YOU don't need to dictate what tests need to be done...let your MD handle all of that, and discuss your concerns about HIV...your doc will recommend a course.  You CAN opt for a PCR, but I don't recommend them....it is just a waste of time and money, IMo...especially with a VERY VERY low (if at all) risk like you had.

A false POS will send you right over the edge (you're already teetering there)...and it will be a mess trying to work thru that process until you come up with a conclusive result.

Nite.

what do you mean "he will know what tests to order," regarding HIV or other symptoms , for PHYISCAL examination.    thanks for the information, but even if PCR has high chance of false, isnt it better to treat early than wait another 2 weeks for the 3 week test?  isnt early treatment necessary?   IF I TELL the doctor that i think i have HIV, would he not RECOMMEND that I do PCR? or will he just order strep throat or do other physical, will I DO A FULL PHYSICAL? please.. i just keep taking cough drop continuously bags after bagts all day so i can swollow.  IF I TELL HIM MY CONCERNS, WOULD HE NOT RECOMMEND HIV TESTING? OR SHOULD I JUST REQUEST MY THROAT OTHER SYMPTOMS AND ASK FOR A FULL PHYSICAL BLOOD TEST??? something is just wrong, this has to be it....

Just go in and explain your symptoms to the doctor and express your concerns.  The doctor will know what tests to order.  They can rule things like strep out the same day with a throat culture.

Do not take the PCR...first it wasn't made for diagnosis, and second, it has a high rate of false pos's.  Imagine THAT hell?  You still woul dhave to follow the PCR up with a standard antibody test anyway...so do not waste your time and money...not to mention risk a false POS.  Plus, they're quite pricey from what I understand.  Teak is much more versed on the PCR testing issues.

I'm telling you that you are over-reacting in a big way.

I really appreciate your statement. I really do, However, she was a MID 40 year old Prostitute (a korean masseuse in korea).  So if i go to the doctor tomorrow, should i tell him i need to do a physical? or HIV PCR test? or just i have a bad throat and white tongue, headache, arthritis like pain in hands and feet, enlarged pimples on my SCALP...  WHY not take the PCR Test, how much is it? do i have to pay extra for that or will my CO-pay cover all of my tests.  Should i take a physical exam...

"this is devastating and this is NOT ANXIETY.........   "

Buddy, I've LIVED with anxiety and I can tell you that it causes very REAL physical symptoms.

Even IF you have something going on with your throat, it isn't consistent with HIV.

You are basing your self-made conclusion/diagnosis on a LOT of "asssumptions". All PLUS some of those assumptions must be true for you to have even been placed at risk for HIV........

1.  That the partner even HAD HIV.  She most likely did NOT...most people don't...and she couldn't give you something she didn't have.

2.  That the condom came off during sex...I already gave you my feeling on that...it's basically impossible.

3.  That even if you WERE exposed to her, and she was +, that you would automatically become infected.  WAY not the case.  Even the highest risk exposures don't always lead to infection.  It isn't a guarantee.

You need to relax.  Go to your doctor this week to have your throat looked at.  Heck---it could be a severe case of strep, in which case your symptoms make perfect sense.

Google "Globus hystericus"....I think you'll be shocked.  This is what ANXIETY does to people.

For your own peace of mind...get tested with a REGULAR antibody (ELISA) test at 6 weeks....that will be an excellent indication of your result.  Then test again at 3 months for a conclusive result.

the condom was on than taken off by the masseuse to get erection, than was put back on and than once again off, than on, but the third time, there was NO erection at all, thus I believe the condom came off of my penis, when I was still having sex with her.  WHY CANT I SWALLOW ANYTHING DOWN MY THROAT... ITS SWOLLEN AND I CANNOT EVEN GET MY SPIT DOWN OR IT PINS LIKE A SHARP POKING AFTER 13 DAYS EXPOSURE, with out even really going outside, because I dont work at the moment.  How can i get the pcr test done, does the regular physical have HIV PCR included in it along with white blood cell counts? this is devastating and this is NOT ANXIETY.........

First of all you need to calm down, and try and relax you are not helping yourself by stressing out.I know how your feeling , but just try to think clearly, first off you cannot judge hiv by symptoms ,there are a million things that can be making you feel this way, the #1 reason anxiety .......so there is a good chance your symptoms are being caused by stress, what was your exposure anyway? Are you sure you had a risk?

FIRST of all....CALM DOOOOWNNNN!

Second...please do not start multiple threads...keep all of your comments on one thread.

Read the answers you've already been given.  Your problem right now is ANXIETY, and you MUST get it under control.  The symptoms you are having in NO way are remotely similar to ARS.

Go to the doctor for your symptoms...and of course be honest, but right now...it is too early for testing anyway.  NO info will be shared with your parents, it is against the law.  You can ask at the doc's office about how certain tests will appear on the insurance statement..I bet it's pretty vague due to confidentiality laws.

Again...read your other thread.  You need to address your anxiety...THAT is your main problem at the moment.

Read what I wrote about the condom...they don't come off and go back on...if it was OFF, you wouldn't have doubted it...it would have been VERY clear, and for as nervous as you are...you would have been anxious about it immediately.
