Possible Exposure - no symptoms for 6 weeks - mild feverish

Dear Dr. Hunter,

I am a male 31. I had unprotected anal and vaginal sex with a CSW in UAE very brief -  2 incidents.

A] - I had a condom on and it came off while in the act (insertive - vaginal) and we continued for about 1 min (without realizing). Post - lady(resident visa) was worried and asked me if I have had sex with others without condom - and I said no and then she felt better.

B](insertive - anal and vaginal - not rough) sex with csw . I was drunk and she pulled off the condom for more pleasure. I was Worried next day, and I checked with the lady about her medical status  - she responded she has a resident visa and is very clean. Unsure of her other exposure with other men (unprotected) - I am worried.

Its been over 6 weeks since my last exposure. I have been reading all comments on the forum and do not find any possible ARS affecting me. To describe:

1st symptom - sore throat and no fever etc - possible cause smoking and cold drinks - subsided in 3 days - with just some warm water home remedy.

2nd symptom - submandibular gland swelling (right side) with pain. This swelling would increase when i eat and go down later. I checked with the doctor and had a CBC ESR test done  - and all tests were normal. He gave me amoxicillin and within a week of the swelling it went away. As i understand ARS lymoh node swelling is body wide - so i was ok.

3rd symptom - In between I experienced very few episodes of fatigue and forehead sweating and panic attack like weakness - As I understand, that I have been very stressed out / anxiety and overly worried - my sugar showed a lil spike and so did my BP - and I understood this as non ARS or HIV - so ok too.

NOW its been exactly 6 weeks and in between just 2wice (last week and yesterday) - I get some seats in my neck and back of head and upper shoulder (my shirt collars become quite wet) - and then i get up in panic - and sleep again. I have not had any fever or fever like symptoms.

** - Yesterday and Today I am feeling my eyes and face and forehead is a little warm - " maybe " feverish like - but no body ache or other weakness - and i am freaking out.

- Please share your comments on the above points ???

I checked with a medical center in UAE for test - they suggested 4th Gen ELISA test - is very definitive and should be enough. What is your suggestion ???

Will await your reply.

MDanny.

Hi guys... Quick update. Last week I tested negative for Elisa HIV 1 /2 + p24 antigen test (6 weeks after last exposure).

Now it's been a week after....and I have a reactive enlarged node in neck...not painful...and mild (37.5) degree fever that is on and off through out the day.

I am getting very concerned. Can any one help....??

Hi aneeshani,

I got myself tested at zack medical center (near business bay metro station) and they are very nice and also keep your details confidential.

While doing the test i was very nervous and the nurse told me . . to relax. she has seen lot of people who are very nervous. She also said, HIV is quite rare in UAE.

My suggestion is get tested. Thats the only way - symptoms or no symptoms.

Best wishes.

Got my test results:

HIV 1/ 2 Ab + P24 Ag, S  - NEGATIVE. ( 6 weeks post exposure_

can this be considered conclusive ?? Do i need to test any further.

Also just observed 1 small peanut size lump - does this happen for other std's. what other std tests can i get done ??

Or is this possibly because of smoking ??
