Rapid test accuarcy?

Hi all.

Following my post yesterday i have now had my rapid test , result negative. Im an extremely happy boy and want to thank this site for providing THE best resource on the web. Honestly, the information here has stopped me losing my mind through OCD last few days. Love and respect to you all.

I have one last question ( i promise).

How accurate is a negative rapid test?

some quick details

1 - My last sexual encounter was over 6 months ago

2 - Test was a blood prick on finger

3 - Result was confirmed negative after 5 minutes (seemed fast to me, but they are the professionals!)

4 - Done at a reputable clinic.

5 - Result confirmed by technician and doctor.

Another small point , and maybe some advise for health care workers here (you've all given us so much!). when conducting the test, the technician told me a postive result would show a red line across the white panel. What she didnt tell me was about the "control" section!! Thus total panic and tears from me when i see a red line there! Trivial i know, but wow what a moment!

Good will indeed, but while I can't mention a particular organisation, there should be many such organisations out there and you can decide to which you want to give your money.

Thanks Lizzie. You are a super star.

Lastly, i understand medhelp is not a charity, so please advise a reputable HIV support organisation where i can make a donation, this has shown me the true value and need of support to people in need for WHATEVER reason.

for someone who had a risk...a test at 3 months post exposure would be realiable and conclusive.

the rapid tests are reliable.
