If I had unprotected sex 7 years ago do you think I would be showing symptoms by now if I contracted HIV?
Teak. I have been trying to send this message to you a few times but I am new to this site and don't really know what I am doing. I have posted messages before but I don't know why I can't get it to send. Anyway, I was wondering what your background is. You seem to know alot about this stuff. Do you just do alot of research or do you have a medical background. Basically what I am wondering is if you know what would be a safe time to assume you are not HIV infected after having unprotected sex. I am a 35 year old female and I had unprotected sex 7 years ago. I haven't had any symptoms except for a couple of white spots on the inside of my cheek which when wiped away leave reddish/purplish spots. Should I be concerned? I took an HIV test and will get the results back Thursday. Can you answer any of this?
Well, first of all, chances are that you haven't exposed anybody to anything. You have tested, and that is good, if only so that you have some peace of mind.
You will be getting your test back soon, so, until you do, try not to worry about symptoms, or the lack thereof, overly much. Symptoms mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Why? Well, to state the obvious: everyone is different. Some people might show symptoms, some might not. Some people may believe they have every symptom in the book and test negative. So, I will echo what Lizzie has already said: symptoms mean nothing in terms of diagnosing oneself with HIV, as do the lack of symptoms. The only way to know for sure is to test, and you have done that.
My guess is that you are just fine.
I didn't believe I had it because he told me he was negative. But after reading posts on this website I got scared because maybe he way lying. So I thought I would ask a few questions. I had a test last week and am getting results this Thursday.
Why would you wait 7 years after your first episode of unprotected sex to bring it up now, (7)years later to come and ask now if you have symptoms of Hiv!!! Have you been been continuing to maybe expose innocent people because you never tested?
