Unprotected Vagina Sex with HIV+ Prostitute

Hello:
I had unprotected vagina sex with a prostitute 10 days ago. I found out that she tested positive for HIV 3 days after we had sex.

I'm obviously very worried. Can you give me my risk factors and advise on testing?

I'm took the early detection RNA test today, which I was told conclusively detects the virus after 9-11 days.
If this test comes back negative, my plan is to take the RNA test again at 14 days and then at 4 weeks.

I'm thinking I can take a deep breath and be confident I'm negative if this first RNA test- or, if not, maybe the 14 day test- comes back negative. Is that correct? I would still do the others to be sure.

I'll also do an antibody test and full STD screening at one month. And likely again at 3 months and 6 months.

Please let me know my risk level and if this is a good plan.

I concur with DragonPulse.  You do not need any more NATs.

It is imperative that you understand, Nucleic Acid Test (Polymerase Chain Reaction) PCR directly look for the genetic viral material itself in the body unlike the Antibody test which looks for the body's response to the infection.

Theoretically, PCR can start detecting as early as 72 hrs after the infection and the detection just keeps getting better along with the time since the HIV virus replicates itself in large nunbers every day which means viral load keeps increasing every single day after the infection. For practical purposes one should wait atleast for 9 - 12 days after the exposure in order to get a PCR test.

A hypersensitive viral load test (Sensitivity -  100 copies / ml) are good enough to detect the presence of the virus in the body.

The right course of action from here is to wait until 28 days from the date of exposure and take a IV Gen HIV test.  Your 'Undectected' result changing ahead is very unlikely.

Thank you for the response and advice.
I was told by the lab that the RNA Early detection test is about 98% accurate at day 9. I took it on day 10, and waiting my results.
I'll still take again at 28 days, but am I correct is thinking that if this first 9 day test is negative, I'm almost 100% sure to be negative?
Gambling odds are for Vegas but this is different because it is about your life. Wait for 28, test and and try to relax because nothing is pointing towards you having HIV.
You do not need to take another RNA early detection test again at 28 days.  Save the money and just take a 4th Gen Duo Ab/Ag.  It will be conclusive then.

All those many tests are not needed, if after your RNA PCR you just wait until the 28th day after your exposure, if you go for a duo combo ab/ag test, it will be accurate.

Yes, man. I live in Juarez on the border with El Paso, TX. But I haven’t found anything in El Paso. I’ll take another test in 2 weeks. **** man. This 50 days have been hell.

I hope everything turns out ok, I’ll use condoms every ******* time.

Yeah, talk about a wake up call for me too. Wish you all the best, and hope all turn out okay too.
Hopefully this is just the biggest scare in both of our lives and we'll turn it into some good moving forward.
For sure man, everything is going to be fine man, I read somewhere that is hard for a man to get HIV through vaginal sex. Something about 1/2000 exposure.

Let me know what happened

For what I read on this forum 6 week antibody test is a good indicator.

I’m on the same boat, I’m on the 8th week, took a test at 6 weeks.

The waiting is unbereable.

Good luck, man. God bless.

Thanks. Good luck to you too.
I'm finding the same thing on this platform, but from what I read from labs and other sites, you can take the early detection FDA approved RNA test and results are conclusive after 9-11 days (90-99%). After 4 weeks, it's 99% I've read.
Have you looked into that and taken it?
I’ve seen it, but I live in Mexico, man. They don’t have that here, just the freaking 3 Gen Elisa Test.

What I know and read that’s expensive, but it’s worth the peace of mind.

Where are you from?
I'm in California. Are you close to the border?
