Unprotected sex female to male

Hello dear doctor ;

I Been meet a girl from irland when she was in spain for holidays
We Been had sex, i asked Her before bcs We had no condom if she was
Clean about std and hiv,i Really regreat about it after that,i got Her Facebook and phone Number abd after few weeks
I asked Her again but she felt upset and ofended and block me in Facebook she told me she Been check out by his gp in irland she Said, after 38 or39 days i got like flu 1 Night Whit 38.3 fever just one Night, snd i found a small gland in my neck around 1 cm i dont know if the gland was there before or not. Muy questions

1 ) do you think it could be ars from hiv . I Been read about ars many studies and i beleve ars normally Is between 10 to 4 weeks after  exposure! Not Really usual to get ars after 5.5 weeks ! Or Is still posible ars 5.5 weeks after you caught it !?

2) its posible to get infected in 1 exposure insertive vaginal sex ( im circuncised i Been read that reduce the chance yo be infected from a woman if she Is hiv+ ) as i read in the cdc the chances are 1 in 2000 exposures but still posible !

3) do you know many man that get hiv in 1 Night stand in your experience or from the médical comunity ?
4) i will test this week will be 10 weeks after my exposure abd i think would be conclusive

IM very   Scared my life will change much if i get hiv from one stupid mistake a Night and bcs i Been trusth this girl

I hope she didn't lie to you either, but it's far from a perfect world and sadly, people lie.

I would hate to see you lose all trust in people, but when it comes to engaging in unprotected sex in this time of HIV, we have to protect ourselves and our families. I don't like to say this, but you should NEVER take the word of ANYONE that they are clean of HIV and STD's. It's just too risky.

We are holding out all our hope for you

We know you are scared and we wish we could tell you what you want to hear, but we can only give you the facts and advise you on those facts as we understand them.

As I said, the odds can be interpreted in a number of ways and for your sake, I hope those odds are on your side.

Hang onto all the positive things you've been told and have read.

I hope you will keep us updated.
We all wish you well

There are many websites that offer various odds of contracting HIV from a one night stand. Understanding exactly what those numbers mean is entirely different.

It is important to emphasize that a person CAN become infected from having unprotected sex once OR a person could have unprotected sex many times and not become infected, regardless of how low or high the risk per exposure is.

A risk of 1% would mean that an average of one infection would occur if 100 HIV-negative people were exposed to HIV through a certain type of sex, which includes unprotected insertive vaginal. It does NOT mean that a person needs to be exposed 100 times for HIV infection to occur.

You engaged in unprotected insertive vaginal sex and therefore you need to test.

If you test this week, which you state will be the 10th week since this exposure, it is highly unlikely your status will change at week 12. (Unless you have engaged in other risky behavior during that time frame)
International guidelines state that a confirmatory test at 12 weeks will give a 100% conclusive result.

Symptoms are NEVER used to diagnose HIV.

You are already outside the window period for ARS. Most people who are going to have ARS symptoms do so by the 3rd week post exposure, and extremely rarely after the 6th week.

I wish you the very best outcome.

Hello, yes you did put yourself at some risk from this situation. Asking your partner about her status is great but that should not be a license to have unsafe sex. After all, someone who claims to be negative and who wants to stay negative avoids taking risks right?
1)no. Symptoms are not a good way of diagnosing hiv
2) you answered your own question. Possible? yes. Likely? No. The prevalence of HIV among non-Black African women in the UK is around 0.06%,
3) I don't think those numbers exist. People are not very good at reporting exposures.
4) A 4th generation test now will be conclusive. A rapid antibodies test will be very very very unlikely to change at 12 weeks.

Take care!
