Unprotected sex with woman 1 week ago

Hi all,

My concern stems from the fact that I had unprotected sex with a South Korean woman (likely middle aged -- I was drunk during this episode) who was on vacation in my country (a country with less than 0.1% incidence rate of HIV) in Asia. I've been absolutely mortified since the experience and am scared about contracting HIV. I understand that South Korea has roughly 0.1% incidence rate as well but my mind has been playing tricks on me.

I know I'll have to wait to wait for another few weeks to get conclusive results from any tests so I wanted to ask you guys about the risk (%) or likelihood of contracting HIV from this exposure.

Sometimes things happen and we regret it. Don't beat yourself up now. It's not worth it.  It happened and now you just deal with it.

You are absolutely right.  It is a very low risk to contract HIV from a one time unprotected vaginal sex episode.  1 percent risk.  So, most likely you did not contract HIV from this (plus she wasn't a sex worker or high risk person).  So, get tested.  I wouldn't have gone on PEP for that exposure as your risk is really so low.  Test with a 4th generation Duo test at 28 days for a conclusive answer.

Oral sex was not a risk at all so no worries there.  Saliva and air break down the virus so it doesn't infect people via this route.

so get tested but I would not worry extensively about this.

How any days do you have left before you can test? don't waste your time or energy studying your body for symptoms because they can't prove anything so they can only make you more anxious.
3 more weeks till a conclusive test at 1 month post-exposure. I am certain that the result will negative but anything that is non-zero is still a risk which explains my presence on this site.

I appreciate your inputs and will continue to live my life devoid of stress over this incident.

Oral, anal or vaginal? You can take a duo after 4 weeks or any other after 12 for a conclusive result.

It was vaginal and oral. I have no suspicion of any symptoms currently (although I've read they're unlikely this early on). I'm worried that I had could have gone on PEP but didn't think of doing it as the odds didn't work out for this seemingly low risk encounter (although I'm an idiot for putting myself in this situation in the first place).
