Is this good news

I just had a 4 week test after unprotected vaginal sex with a woman. It was negative. I know I need to keep getting tested until 3 months.

I had a sore throat and a swollen lymph node in the neck at 10 days. That cleared up before I got tested. Would it then follow that although I understand I am still in the 3 month window, the sore throat and swollen node would not have been caused by HIV infection. Wouldn't I have tested positive if they were?

Again, I realize I'm not out of the woods yet for HIV. Thanks

You didn't have a risk of contracting HIV and what signs and symptoms you are having has nothing to do with HIV.

I have the same question. I've had swollen lymph nodes in neck and under armpit (it seemed infected and had pus-armpit) These symptoms occured 1 week after oral sex but I have a cavity in my tooth that needs root canal work. Semen did get into mouth but I rinsed with peroxide afterwards. I had and HIV test 4 weeks after this exposure and it was negative. Does this means that I probably don't have HIV?

Your 4 weeks negative has no bearing on a recent exposure. What it did tell you is that you have never been exposed previously to HIV.

Yes, your 4 weeks test is very good news. Your 6-8 week test will be even better news for you. After that ride the train all the way to week 12 with no worries from there. Symptoms mean nothing. Stress, anxiety, and nerves can play with your mind. Take it easy, and go with the flow.

I realize symptoms are not a good indicator of HIV and are common to many other illnesses.  I understand that I need to keep getting tested and that I could still test positive in the future.

Let me try to re-phrase my question. If the symptoms were related to HIV, wouldn't I have tested positive two weeks later? This is not to say that I coudn't test positive later in the 3 month period. I'm trying to establish that the symptoms I had at day 10  were not caused by HIV.

As this is worrysome enough, it would be beneficial to know that I can at least eliminate the thought that I had symptoms related to HIV. And realize that I need to keep testing.

Thanks
