Window Period For HIV Testing

I am a gay male who had condomless receptive sex on Sunday, November 24, 2019.  I have been on PReP for two years and use it consistently.  I usually never have condomless sex, but the guy who had sex with said he was on PReP and even showed me his weekly pill case with the Truvada medication in it and confirmed that he was last tested for HIV and stds in September and is negative.  He did not ejaculate inside me.  I recently tested for hiv and stds on November 18, 2019 with my primary doctor and tested negative.  My primary doctor doesn’t seem to concerned about this incident and suggested I wait till my three month to test again.  For piece of mind that I didn’t catch a resistant strain of HIV, I’m planning to test this Saturday, which will be 13 days after the incident.  The website of the free clinic I plan to test at says they have the latest tests that are able to test up to 7 days after exposure.  Will this be too soon to test for HIV and other STD’s since I’m currently on PReP?

Please follow your doctor's advice.  PrEP prevent most infections, and the fact that your partner is also on PrEP makes HIV transmission extraordinarily unlikely.  I'm not aware of any test that is conclusive a t 7 days post-exposure, as antigen formation and subsequent infection usually peak around day 10.  However, you're looking at day 13, and I'm assuming they're using an RNA PCR test, which would detect the presence of the virus.

Personally, I'd just wait until your 3-month test, due to the extremely low-risk nature of your encounter, but to each his own.

Thank you for the response.  I started PrEP so there would be less anxiety about HIV, but I still worry about the “what if’s”.  I’ve been stressing that maybe the guy I had sex wasn’t taking Truvada correctly, but I have to remind myself that I’ve been consistent.  Your answer does help shut up the little voices of doubt in my head.
I got tested on Saturday for HIV and STI’s for peace of mind, even though it was suggested that I could wait till my three month check.  I did a rapid HIV test and tested negative on Saturday.  I received all my tests regarding gonorrhea, chlymadia and Syphilis today, Tuesday, December 10, 2019 and they were all negative.  I gave a urine, rectal, throat, and blood draw and was alerted today through a secure app that I was negative for the three STI’s.  Is it strange that they only one result I haven’t received yet is my result for the HIV antigen/antibody test?  Does this test take a longer time to get a result?  The clinic I got the test from says that it takes 7 to 10 business days to receive all test results, but it’s strange I received all other tests today and still am waiting for the one test that is giving me the most anxiety and keeping me up at night.  I researched how the clinic notifies patients about positive HIV tests and confirmed that they only notify HIV negative tests through the electronic app and will call patients personally about positive tests.  I received all my negative results for the tests between noon and 6 p.m. today.  I’ve been dreading a call from the clinic but did not receive one since they closed at 8 p.m.  Hopefully the HIV test hasn’t been checked yet, but I’ve been stressing out about this.

Any test that you would decide to take has to be after you pause or stop your PrEP medication. Chances of acquiring HIV is low. A 28 days IV HIV test would be an excellent idea, backing it up with a 90 days antibody test is recommended, a 28 days IV generation result changing ahead is improbable.

For either of the test to yield a correct result you would have to wait for 28 days from the last dose of your PrEP.

Hence, if you wish to take a PCR RNA, you will have to do it at 28 days + 7-14 days, 11 days being optimum, as recommended by most experts.
Or, 28 days + 28 days for a IV/V Generation of AG/AB test.
