observation

I have noticed this in a LOT of posts here.

Folks like myself that think they may have had an exposure seem to get "symptoms" of HIV with in two weeks etc, this ranges from the fever, sore throat, fatigue, swollen nodes etc etc...I am wondering is it the mind playing trick on the body, are we simply willing ourselves sick? Or is it just a terrible unfortunate twist of fate getting ill right after what we think is an exposure...Any thoughts?

Anxiety can make people think they are experiencing ARS when they are not. If your mouth is dry from anxiety it can produce a sensation similar to sore throat. If you prod your lymph nodes enough it will cause them to swell. Muscle aches and fatigue are also symptoms of anxiety and depression. It comes from searching for HIV symptoms on the internet and misinterpreting anxiety symptoms as HIV symptoms.

I'm sure there are also people who have the misfortune of catching a garden-variety virus after they have a questionable encounter- the symptoms have considerable overlap with ARS. All of this is why we tell people that you can't determine your status through symptoms.
