what am I dealing with! ? hellllp

Hey ,

I am working in public hospital . We have 4 buildings
1 ,2 and 3 buildings its for lab and nursing and patience
The 4 build its for administration where I am work in .

I was walking today to my office and I step in sharp objective that penetration my shoes and made my skin bleeding I walked couple of steps then I came back to see what was that . I couldn't see anything I tried to look around but nothing was there .

I am really scared what was that . What if it was a syringe !? What is my risk guys

do you suggest me to visit infection control !?
I have already taken HBV vaccine last year so I think I don't have any problems with HBV , but what about HIV !? What is my risk !? Do I need to take PEP !?

I am really scared !!!!!!!!!!!
Because I read the needlestick inside health care settings can result infection !?

i think you should be more rational here. it was obviously a stone. a needle would stand out a mile. plus - even it it was a needle it would have been old and the hiv (if any) would have been dead some time ago. don't waste any more anxiety on this.

So here is the update

I went to the infection control in hospital where I work in .. the doctor wasn't there but I met the nurse . She said its quite unlikely that was a needle because it was in administration building and also you couldn't find the syringe .because if waht stick you was a needle you will definitely saw it or at least it the needle will go very deep in your skin not just a little bleeding . She said its might be a small wood or glass or even something like sharp objects . She gave me a shot for tetanus and she said no risk for HCV, HBV and HIV . And no PEP needed or and medicine except Tetanus shot .

What do you think guys !?
I felt she is not interesting in my story and she want to send me off quickly because she was busy with some peppers.

What shall I do now !?

Is it possible to get poked by needle and you couldn't find it !?

This is an exceedingly low risk situation. The chance is essentially zero that the sharp object was a needle, that it was used, and if used that it was on an HIV infected patient. There has never been a case of HIV in a hospital employee or health worker who was not injured with a contaminated sharp instrument while providing care to an infected patient.

In my opinion, you definitely should contact the infection control team. I'm sure they will give you pretty much the same reassurance I just did and I strongly doubt they will recommend PEP. But they also should know about sharp objects in hallways! Also, if you think about it, I think you'll realize there is no way you could have been poked by a syringe you couldn't find. And it's difficult to think of why there would be a syringe on the floor of the administration building. A piece of glass sounds much more likely.

There's really no reason for worry. Best wishes.
