The duo test tests for antigens and antibodies.
A 4th Generation (DUO) looks for both p24 antigen and HIV antibodies.
p24 antigen is a viral protein and is detectable much earlier than HIV antibodies . It occurs early after infection due to the initial burst of virus replication.
What "midnight sun" told you is correct. Your chances of having acquired HIV are very slim but not out of the question.
Other STI's are easier to transmit than HIV.
Get tested at the appropriate times and refrain from unprotected sex with your wife.
The thought of both is actually very frightning. Your info is much appreciated! Thx. You so much for the quick response. In 4 weeks it is....but what is the duo test? And is that something I can do at 4 weeks? All the reading ive been doing says 3mnths for HIV?
So, what's more frightening? That you think you may contracted HIV? Or the thought of having to tell your wife you cheated on her?
Even with menstrual blood, HIV transmission from female to male is highly unlikely. And, in your case is think it's close to zero. Your partner has insisted she does not have HIV, if her tests are up to date, I would have no reason not to believe her. However, though this was very low risk for HIV, you were still at risk of acquiring other more common STDs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes. You should be tested for these STDs and HIV BEFORE resuming unprotected sex with your wife.
Test at four weeks with a DUO test for conclusive HIV results. You can test for chlamydia and gonorrhea as early as 7 days. However, herpes testing may need to wait 12 weeks (unless you experience symptoms earlier-usually within a couple weeks if infected).
