unprotected sex - risk?? major anxiety

So, my boyfriend and I broke up a few months ago. At the time of the break up, both him and I were aware of our STD status as we were tested before being with each other in a monogamous relationship. We were both negative for everything. Well, just recently, He had sex with a friend of his who doesn't know her STD status. One week later my ex and I had unprotected sex and now im worried about my risk for any STDs like HIV or Hepatitis. I know I made a mistake. I am on birth control but how much risk am I at for these, or any other diseases?

Relax ! Chances of contracting HIV from a single, isolated act of unprotected sex are not very significant. There is a strong possibility that your ex or the partner, who he slept with, are not infected. Therefore nobody can give anything he/she does not have.

Having said that, unprotected sex is anyhow a risk (little or significant, depending on the factors) between two partners with unknown health status...

Therefore, you should stay calm, wait for 4 weeks and get yourself tested, just to rule out the possibility. Alternately, you can ask your ex to get himself tested, if
1. That contact was his the only exposure after he separated.
2. His exposure with the third partner is 4 weeks or more old.

Having said that, never ever go unprotected with anyone, outside your mutually committed monogamous relationship

Hi, thank you for your response. This just happened recently, so i have a few more weeks to wait to be able to test which is why I'm freaking out so much.

I knew his health status prior to the incident he participated in with his friend so i am hoping that he didn't have anything when he engaged with me a week later, but im still very anxious as I am unaware of hers..
Should I reach out to my doctor for PEP?
If it has been more than 72 hours since the event, PEP would no longer be effective.  Also, PEP is generally reserved for high-risk situation, where one partner is known to be HIV-positive.  Your risk was low, and while I understand your concern, the chances that he contracted HIV from a one-time encounter, and the chances that his other partner is HIV-positive, are also incredibly low.
