Individual Health coverage..full time student..

Hi,

I am a 40 something female that was laid off work and went back to school full time. I have a job that does not pay very much at the moment but it's only part time. I am healthy and would like coverage for check ups, etc. I read here about the Student Health Insurance Plans. My community college seems to be offering one. Do you think that is my best option? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.

Dear DRou,

Student plans offered through schools vary a great deal. So you will have to find out a bit more about the plan offered by your community college before making a decision. Things like how much it costs per month, what you need to enroll in it, if it has a deductible, what is the maximum it covers in case of a catastrophe, how it covers "check ups", etc.

Once you find those facts, then compare your college plan with plans offered in the individual market and see how it stalks against them.

Let me know if you have more specific questions.

Sincerely,

Amir Mostafaie
