Dear allisonharris,
There is only 2 weeks to September 1st, and it seems like you will start receiving coverage through your spouse’s group sponsored plan.
To the my knowledge, under the new law pregnancy is not a pre-existing condition that can be excluded under group sponsored plans. To put your mind at ease, you can have your spouse inquire from his human recourse department that you can start getting coverage once your coverage is effective.
As for individual private health insurance, depending on which state you reside in, you could be denied coverage until 01/01/2014 when the Affordable Care Act is fully in effect.
Sincerely,
Amir Mostafaie
The short answer is: NO.
With insurance plans with maternity cover, there is usually a 12-month waiting period on maternity expenses. Insurers will accept you being already pregnant, but this pregnancy will not be covered.
