can soimeone help?

I need new aids, I have ruined colhears in my left ear with good hearing, my right ear is severe loss. I had hearing aid coverage with my ins that I previously had but no longer have. I am a senior citizen  so have to look for .a good aid at a lower price.

I went to Miracle ear because my last aid I purchased from the same audiologists  works or owns center. She gave me a price of $4,9000 for 2 aids. quality would be good. She said it would have 24 something but not being able to understand her I have no idea what she means. I told her I could not afford the price  so now she is offering me a Starkey or another brand with 12-16  whatever ite for $3,000 for both. I do have Starkey's now but the mic is not working on one and have noticed more loss over the years.

Can someone explain to me what this 24 or 12 means and am I getting a good price. We have no Costo's  hearing aid centers near us and have heard pros and cons about them as well as other centers .Is the price reasonable for them?

I was not aware of this but still  at least a 4-5 hour round trip drive, if you could go get the test go back for the aids it would  be okay but you always have to go to have them adjusted for hearing.

We have  Hear Pa. and also a Beltone. are you familiar with any of these?.

I hate to disparage any company, but I will say that I was relieved to hear that.

You might try going to an academic medical center or a university clinic. Places that train graduate students tend to stay more current, and their prices tend to be better (not always--you can call to check prices of specific aids if you wish to compare). Here are some ideas, but this is not comprehensive. Your area is blessed to have a large city close by.
-Pennsylvania Ear Institute
-Jefferson Balance and Hearing Center
-Penn Medicine's audiology department
-Temple University hospital's audiology department

See if any of them can help you. It's hard to be without your hearing. :(

No I have not got new aids as of yet. I am just not too happy with with Miracle Ear, I have read feedback from patients that received M.E. aids and thy were not positive at all but very negative. I have also spoke to a few people that got aids from  M.E and nothing good was said about the company.

I am a senior citizen so I am sure Medicare will not pay for any surgery but I was also told I am not a candidate for the implants.

Thank you for your imput, Linda

I know this was a few weeks ago, but I wanted to check in with you. Did you end up finding a good aid for you?

One thing I want to emphasize to everyone is the the importance of a good audiologist. You may get cheap aids, or even good aids, but without a good audiologist to program them, they may not help.

Another thing to think about are surgical options. Check with your insurance about coverage for bone-anchored hearing aids (such as Cochlear BAHA), cochlear implants if you are getting pretty deaf (brands include Med-El, Advanced Bionics, and Cochlear), and middle-ear implants (Med-El's Vibrant).

The nice thing is that there are many good options for hearing loss today. The not-so-nice thing is that insurance may not cover all of these.

Best of luck, line. I hope you like your new aids. :)

Thanks  I will l check this.site out. I have heard good things about costo's hearing aid centers but the closest to me is a 3 hour round trip. so tat is a trip to be tested, a trip for the aids and almost always a another to have adjustments made.
